ACN Continues to Give Back to Charlotte Community During International Training Event

From all walks of life and from every corner of the globe, they came to Charlotte. They filled hotels, patronized local businesses and clustered around the blue-and-white Welcome ACN flags that decorated the streets outside Time Warner Cable Arena and Uptown Charlotte. From September 10-12, 2010, more than 20,000 people visited the Charlotte area for one of ACN’s International Training Events.

ACN provides individuals with a home-based business opportunity to offer telecommunications and essential services to residential and business customers. Representatives who attended the event received priceless training on how to build their businesses, but the Charlotte area received so much more.

“ACN is an exceptional corporate citizen that every city wishes they had more of,” Executive Director of Visit Charlotte Mike Butts said. “Not only do they bring valuable jobs to the area with their headquarters based here, but they bring tourism dollars to our restaurants, retail establishments, hotels and other businesses by having their events here.”

Although ACN holds events throughout the world, this was the second time in the last two years the company hosted one of them in Charlotte. Butts estimates that the event generated $13.8 million for the local economy.

The ACN International Training Event has also left a more permanent impression on Charlotte. At every International Training Event, ACN collects contributions from thousands of generous representatives and employees for Ronald McDonald House Charities. The company then matches the donations dollar for dollar. At the end of the Charlotte event weekend, ACN presented RMH of Charlotte Executive Director Mona Johnson-Gibson and Ronald McDonald a check for $123,347.

“ACN has been incredible for us,” Johnson-Gibson said. “It’s awesome to come here to these conventions, and the reps are so generous. But for us, it’s bigger than that. We have the ACN World Headquarters here, and some of our biggest volunteers are ACN employees.”

ACN has donated $2 million for the construction of a Ronald McDonald House in Charlotte. The house, which is under construction, is slated to open in 2011 and will serve the families of children being treated at Levine Children’s Hospital and Presbyterian Healthcare’s Hemby Children’s Hospital.

“The decision to locate our Global World Headquarters here wasn’t by accident,” ACN President and Co-Founder Greg Provenzano said. “We love having our representatives visit us to see the friendly community in which we live and work, as well as everything the city of Charlotte has to offer. Charlotte faces the same challenges as many cities today, who are struggling financially with the current economic crisis. It means a lot to us that we are able to help in some small way by bringing our thousands of representatives here to sell out hotels, visit restaurants and local attractions. We’re proud to call this area home, and even more proud that we can leave a positive impact on the city. Many community leaders have expressed their appreciation for the financial impact this past weekend has had on our city.”

And the benefits for Charlotte didn’t end when representatives returned home. ACN was announced as the Presenting Sponsor of the Bronko Nagurski Trophy by the Charlotte Touchdown Club on Tuesday September 14.

ACN has committed to a four-year agreement totaling $500,000 which will also allow us to televise the awards banquet through a syndication package starting in 2011” Charlotte Touchdown Club President Mike Sullivan said. “In addition, thanks to ACN’s generous support, the Charlotte Touchdown Club will meet its goal of a fully-funded $1 million endowment by next year, which will enable the club to increase our commitment and support of area athletics, such as our recent contribution to Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools’ efforts to keep athletic programs available to all middle school students,” Sullivan said.
