How can you mend a broken heart? We all know there is no quick fix for this one. But The Broken Beauty Project has a few ideas that may offer some helpful insights. This creative experience, a beautiful blend of theater, visual art and thoughtful discussion, was developed by writer Peggy Barnell and artist Melody Hogan. A 45-minute stage play is the centerpiece of the program, exploring one dysfunctional family’s journey into the care and cancer for one of their own. Visual art displays are placed throughout the performance area. Mannequins, Melody’s canvas of choice, represent some well-known sources of brokenness; participants are invited to view the artwork before and after for more intimate examination. A twenty-minute talk wraps up the presentation, inspired by this quote from L.R. Knost: "Do not be dismayed by the brokenness of the world. All things break. And all things can be mended. Not with time, as they say, but with intention. So go. Love intentionally, extravagantly, unconditionally. The broken world waits in darkness for the light that is you." Many have come to recognize the importance of story – while art is a bridge that invites us to cross over, speaks on a deeper level of soul-connection. The Broken Beauty Project’s blend of story, art and thoughtful discussion will encourage participants to examine their own brokenness in a healthy, healing atmosphere. Mental health resources are made available at the close of the presentation. The goal of The Broken Beauty Project is to provide quality entertainment, while at the same time encourage honest dialogue, healthy self-examination, and a sense of community in life's chaos. So join us for Ladies Night Out at The Third Place on June 10th at 7pm! Enjoy some good girlfriend time...complete with coffee and desserts, and some good conversation about how our brokenness makes us even MORE beautiful! TIckets are $7 in advance, $10 at the door.
