These elegant geometric planters evoke a sense of Mid-Century Modern fused with a love of bringing nature indoors. They are fun to design and hand-sculpt, and provide the perfect home for succulents, air plants or small herbs + flowers. During this ceramic workshop, you will roll up your sleeves and learn to hand-build three planters from clay slabs. Our inspiration is a geometric design, but if that's not your style, your'e free to come up with your own shapes for your planters. You can create these planters to hang or sit flat on a table. You'll learn about the stages of clay, basic hand-building techniques, and experiment with textures and design as you create in a laid back, fun, social atmosphere. You'll learn creative ways to apply texture as a design element, using materials pressed into the clay, or building raised texture using liquid slip. You'll also learn techniques for applying color with under-glaze on the clean, white earthenware. We'll inspire you with creative ideas, instruct you on techniques and let you dive in and get busy! All skill levels welcome! These make such a lovely housewarming gift, but you may not be able to part with them! Your creations will be kiln fired and available for pick up the following week at the Small Hands Big Art studio. WHEN: Tuesday, March 21, 7-9 pm WHERE: The Small Hands Big Art studio, 8025 Ardrey Kell Rd., Suite 103, Charlotte, NC 28277 COST: $55 (includes all materials, use of tools + kiln firing).
