Celebrate the day Mecklenburg County declared independence from Great Britain with a pint of Captain James Jack Pilsner and other festivities.
In May 1775 the brave Militia Captain James Jack set off from Charlotte for Philadelphia with the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence to lay before the Second Continental Congress. When he returned he said the representatives from North Carolina read and approved the documents. However, at that time the Congress was debating and approving a petition to the King asking for reconciliation, so the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence was forgotten for many years. Today, Charlotte celebrates the Declaration every May 20.
