One Thousand and One Arabian Nights

Providence Day School
5800 Sardis Rd Charlotte, NC 28270
The Charlotte Civic Orchestra presents ‘One Thousand and One Arabian Nights’, featuring violin prodigy, Nathan Meltzer. Dr. Geoffrey Whitehead conducts Scheherazade, Op. 35 by Rimsky-Korsakov, which features Mr. Meltzer as concert master. Scheherazade is a symphonic suite based on the stories of ‘The Arabian Nights”, such as Sinbad and Aladdin. Mr. Meltzer will also perform Jean Sibelius’s Violin Concerto in D Minor, Op. 47. Much of the violin writing is purely virtuosic. This concerto is symphonic in scope, departing completely from the often lighter, "rhythmic" accompaniments of many other concertos. Sixteen-year-old Nathan Meltzer studies with Itzhak Perlman and Li Lin at Juilliard Pre-College, where he is a Starling Delay scholar. Nathan has performed in Argentina, Austria, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Germany, Israel, and across the U.S. Tickets are available at the door or online at Adults $15, Seniors and Students $12, Families $40.
