Queens University's Department of History is pleased to host for this year's Preyer Lecture Series Dr. Waldo E. Martin, Alexander F. and May T. Morrison Professor of American History and Citizenship at the University of California, Berkeley. Join the Department of History in welcoming Dr. Waldo E. Martin, Jr., Professor of History and Citizenship at the University of California, Berkeley, who will examine the complex histories of the Modern Civil Rights and Black Power Movements with an emphasis on understanding both as integral dimensions of a broader and more inclusive African American Freedom Struggle. An expert of African American cultural and intellectual history, Martin explores particular moments where and specific ways in which the Modern Civil Rights and Black Power Movements converge and diverge. He also examines the especially revealing role of African American cultural politics in the history of Civil Rights and Black Power.
