The Trio SIMKHE, which is Yiddish for "celebration," performs music connected to Jewish culture - Klezmer music, music from Yiddish theater, and music written by Jewish composers for the Broadway and concert stage. Sometimes referred to as "Jewish jazz," Klezmer music is rooted in eastern European lively dance tunes and was revived in the mid 1970s. Members are Gene Kavadlo, principal clarinetist with the Charlotte Symphony; Ali Kavadlo, principal violinist emeritus with the Charlotte Symphony; and Dr. Paul Kitsch, pianist, the Macavity Artist-In-Residence at Queens.
