“Implicit Bias & Blindspots” Sunday, May 21 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM at Avondale Presbyterian Church 2821 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28209 We’ll learn about where biases come from, how they occur, and examine “mindbugs” that cause biases and how we deal with them. The “Implicit Bias & Blindspots” session will feature material from the book, “Blindspot: Hidden Biases of Good People”. A quiz shared will help us look at our own biases for our own personal awareness. This is a “Come to the Table” session organized by Avondale Presbyterian Church. These sessions are offered to promote discussion, challenge assumptions, and provide a time for listening and thinking. Christopher Lee Dr. Mary Martin, an Associate Professor at Winthrop University in the College of Education, served 30 years in the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System. Her last positions held in CMS were as an elementary principal and the Director of Elementary Curriculum and Instruction. Ms. Martin’s areas of leadership include: Educational Leadership: (Dispositions of Aspiring Principals, Collaboration, and Successful Administrative Teams); Turn-Around Schools Instructional Leadership (Engagement, Rigor, and Instructional Planning); Building Professional Learning; and Communities in Schools. Rev. Christopher Lee joined Avondale in 2012. He received his Master of Divinity from Union Presbyterian Seminary of Charlotte and was ordained in 2013. Before joining Avondale, he served as the Director of Youth Ministry at Paw Creek Presbyterian Church, Central United Methodist Church in Mooresville, and Huntersville Presbyterian Church. He’s married to Brandy Lee, a CMS teacher, and has two young daughters. Chris is a CIAA champion tennis player and also enjoys gardening. At Avondale, he is the Associate Pastor of Youth and manages our Family Life Center and Summer Ministries.
