With fewer hours of daylight, the temperatures have dropped—and your desire to burn energy might have, too. Fortunately, the Queen City’s flexible fitness scene makes it easy to peel yourself off the couch and pick your calorie-burning poison. These beginner-to-buff activities will help you tone, strengthen and enjoy that much-needed burst of endorphins.

Find your moment of Zen at Charlotte Yoga

“Ohm” the day’s stress away over classes at Charlotte Yoga. They’re perfect regardless of your ability level or fitness goals. Want to chill out? Get to the Karma Candlelit Flow class. Need to bid adieu to extra weight and get back on track? A Hot Vinyasa session will do the trick. Feeling creaky after a long car ride? Don’t miss the Deep Stretch option.

Test your strength at STAX Bootcamp

Usually when two professional athletes are whipping you into shape, it’s because you’re a celebrity, and you’ve got thousands of dollars to throw at training sessions. With STAX Bootcamp, it doesn’t matter how much disposable cash you have to drop on a workout. Led by NFL great Randy Moss and CrossFit and yoga pro Emily Breeze Ross-Watson, STAX is a completely free boot camp hosted every Monday and Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. You’ll push yourself to the limit alongside hundreds of other attendees.

Get lean and mean at Hilliard Studio Method

If you spend your spare time looking at models on the pages of magazines and coveting their long, lean physiques, this is the fitness pursuit for you. Hilliard Studio Method, created by mother-daughter duo Liz Hilliard and Clary Hilliard Gray, relies on resistance bands, weighted balls, barre work and more to sculpt a carefully toned body without adding bulk.

Three to See:

Work For Your Beer

If you’ve got fitness commitment issues, a budget to follow and a thirst to quench, Work For Your Beer is perfect for you. The site aggregates all of the run clubs, cycling groups, yoga classes, and other cheap or free group exercise options in Charlotte, making it easy to get fit and meet new people without breaking the bank. As the name suggests, all of the activities listed happen or wrap up at a brewery, so you know you’ll be able to reward yourself with something frothy and delicious when you’re done.

Cycle South

Torch calories to a killer soundtrack at Cycle South in Uptown. It’s the place to go when you’re ready to put in work on your bike and see the results. Choose from 35-, 45- or 60-minute spin sessions. No matter how much time you have to spare, you’ll find a class that jives with your schedule and then lets you get on with your day.

CrossFit Charlotte

Widely known for both its camaraderie and its results, the CrossFit approach is one way to ensure you’re never bored at the gym. You’ll mix it up with ever-changing WODs (Workout of the day) and find that you’re only worried about competing with yourself, instead of spending the whole time secretly verifying that your treadmill pace is faster than the person next to you.
