Charlotte beer fitness activities to try in 2017

Excited to get more involved in Charlotte’s beer fitness scene this year? If staying active and exploring Charlotte’s craft breweries are on your New Year’s resolutions list, we’ve got some good news for you.

More and more beer fitness events have been popping up in neighborhoods throughout Charlotte, offering a wide variety of ways to workout (and grab a pint afterward, of course).

There’s even a new website to help you stay on top of the 60+ fitness activities going on at breweries, restaurants, and bottle shops around Charlotte. Work For Your Beer was created by Charlotte beer & fitness enthusiasts who were looking to create the ultimate one-stop-shop for everything you need to know about existing and new fitness classes and clubs, and create a way for you to get to know the rest of the active beer-lovers that make up the unique Queen City community.

Legion Run Club

Don’t let the distance fool you—though the Legion Run Club route may seem a bit short at just four miles, the hilly Plaza Midwood roads make for some intense inclines. You’re sure to be sweating by the time you return for your post-run beer.

When: Thursdays at 6:30 PM

Cost: Free

 

Sycamore Brewing Run Club

The great thing about Sycamore Run Club is that you’ve got options. You can either run on Wednesday evening or Sunday morning, and you can select a one, three, or five mile route. The choice is yours!

When: Wednesdays at 6:30 PM and Sundays at 11:45 AM

Cost: Free, and runners get a 25% off coupon to use at Sycamore after their run

 

Three Spirits Brewery Run Club

We love kicking off the weekend with a Friday night run at Three Spirits Run Club. There are one, three, four, six, and seven-and-a-half mile routes available, so this run club is ideal for beginners and long-time runners alike.

When: Fridays at 6:30 PM

Cost: Free, and runners get a free five-ounce pour after they return from their route

 

NoDa Brewing Run Club

This list wouldn’t be complete without Charlotte’s original brewery run club! Whether you choose to run the one, three, or five mile route, the NoDa Run Club is a must-do for Charlotteans.

When: Wednesdays at 6:30 PM

Cost: Free

 

Charlotte Running Co. Run Club

As the name implies, the Charlotte Running Co. Run Club is pretty serious about running! This is well-known around town as the longest-standing run club in Charlotte. The four-and-a-half mile run happens every week, rain or shine, no matter what!

When: Mondays at 6:30 PM

Cost: Free, and you get a free beer after your run

 

Heist Brewery Run Club

If you’re going to start running with the Heist Brewery Run Club, you might as well commit—especially since if you get a free Frequent Runner card, you get a complimentary menu item after your eighth run. Or for $25 a year, you can officially join the HBRC to get 10% off all food items, 20% off Heist apparel, and a 20 ounce pour anytime you go to the brewery.

When: Mondays at 6:30 PM

Cost: Free, or $25 if you want to officially join the HBRC

 

Triple C Brewing Co. Yoga

If you’ve been holding off on going to yoga because you’re not into all the zen, meditative, restorative stuff, then this is the class for you. Triple C Yoga, led by The Yoga Dude himself, is an athletically inspired flow that will give you a serious workout. It’s one of the most challenging beer fitness activities in Charlotte.

When: Thursdays at 6:30 PM

Cost: $5 gets you the class and a beer

 

Free Range Brewing Yoga

If you're looking for free beer yoga classes in Charlotte, we love the Thursday night vinyasa flow at Free Range Yoga! Instructors rotate each week between Allison Brewster, Kristen Witkowski, and Erica Kiely, but each of these instructors teaches an all-levels flow ideal for beginners and seasoned yogis alike.

When: Thursdays at 6:30 PM

Cost: Free,but yogis are encouraged to stay for a beer to support Free Range!

 

Lenny Boy Brewing Co. Yoga

We love heading to Lenny Boy Yoga on Saturday mornings to start our weekends off right: with an all-levels vinyasa flow and a healthy, delicious kombucha. Or you can skip the kombucha and start your Saturday with a beer. Trust us, we’ve done both.

When: Saturdays at 10 AM

Cost: $5 gets you the class and a six-ounce glass of beer or kombucha

 

Oak Room Yoga

Again, you’ve got a few options when it comes to Oak Room Yoga. You can go to Sip & Stretch on the second Wednesday of the month, or you can head to Yogatopia every other Thursday. The choice is yours.

When: Sip & Stretch is the second Wednesday of the month at 6:30 PM, and Yogatopia is every other Thursday at 6:30 PM

Cost: Sip & Stretch is free, and Yogatopia will cost you $7

 

Blue Blaze Brewing Yoga

When it comes to Blue Blaze Yoga, you’ve got a few choices to make. Are you looking for a Wednesday night class or a Sunday morning class? And will you try one of the brewery’s five flagship beers or their latest specialty brews after class? Decisions, decisions…

When: Wednesdays at 6:30 PM and Sundays at 11:30 AM

Cost: $5 gets you the class and a 13-ounce beer afterwards

 

Birdsong Brewing Yoga

If you haven’t been to an NC Yoga Bar class yet, then Birdsong Yoga is a great place to start. This Tuesday night flow is followed by a free 12-ounce beer after class, and it’s perfect for yogis of all levels.

When: Tuesdays at 6:30 PM

Cost: $10 for a walk-in, but if you buy an NC Yoga Bar passport, your cost can be as low as $5

 

Unknown Bike & Brew

Looking to get involved in Charlotte’s brewery bike ride scene? Check out the Unknown Bike & Brew. This Saturday afternoon ride offers routes from 10 to 35 miles, ideal for beginners and experienced riders alike.

When: Saturdays at 2:30 PM

Cost: The ride is free for participants, but the brewery donates $1 to charities like National MS Society or 24 Hours of Booty

 

Olde Mecklenburg Brewery Bike-Up

This Sunday ride is great for those looking for a challenge. OMB Bike-Up is an hour and a half ride, with 20 and 28 mile routes available. Riders choosing the shorter “No Drop” route must be able to keep up with the minimum pace of 17 MPH, so come ready!

When: Sundays at 2:30 PM

Cost: The ride is free, but participants do have to sign a waiver before heading out

 

Sugar Creek Brewing Taproom Fitness

CrossFit lovers, rejoice: you can enjoy Sugar Creek Taproom Fitness, hosted by Metro CrossFit, for free every Wednesday. Come ready to sweat, because you’ll be working hard for your beer at this class each week.

When: Wednesdays at 6 PM

Cost: Free

 

Unknown Brewery Bootcamp

Hosted by YMCA fitness instructors, Unknown Brewery Bootcamp is an intense strength-training workout that is sure to leave you panting, sweating, and ready for a beer!

When: Thursdays at 6 PM

Cost: Free

 

Free Range Brewing Swing Dance

If you’re looking for an activity that’s a little out-of-the-box, give the Free Range Brewing Swing Dancing series a try. Hosted by GottaSwing Charlotte, this class takes you through the basics and beyond, so it’s good for both experienced dancers and first timers.

When: Certain Wednesdays each month—see the schedule here

Cost: $3 for the class
