Chopped: Charlotte Edition

Five local culinary masters face off.

Charlotte’s farmers market season is here, meaning it’s time to start stocking up on homegrown fruit, vegetables and herbs. To help you get prepared, we lined up five culinary artisans (including one who competed on the Food Network’s “Chopped”) and challenged them to use local items to create innovate yet simple dishes that anyone can make.

Each chef was provided with a head of lettuce, green cabbage, spaghetti squash, acorn squash, tomatoes and a cucumber through a CSA (Community Shared Agriculture) program with Burton Farms and Greeneman Farms at 7th Street Public Market, and then their skills were put to the test. They were tasked with creating a dish using the local ingredients but were also encouraged to add other simple ingredients to give it a unique twist.

As to who won the challenge, we’ll leave it up to you to decide. Now get to cooking!
