Charlotte’s reputation as a city brimming with arts and culture continues to grow. Many of the Queen City’s best and most innovative cultural venues offer ways for you to go from observer to participant and even possibly become an aficionado.

Dance your heart out. 

Don’t hang up those childhood toe shoes just yet. The Charlotte Ballet offers dance classes tailored to suit the needs of seniors.

Get creative. 

Tap into your inner Bearden (Romare Bearden was a renowned artist originally from Charlotte) through the Open Easels workshops at the Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts + Culture. Participants even get to work with a live model.

Be inspired. 

Gain insight into the creative process. The Becthler Museum of Modern Art provides programs and resources that explore the museum’s permanent collection and provide context for mid-century modern art and culture.

Marvel at awe-inspiring works of art at the Mint Museum Uptown, showcasing renowned craft and design, contemporary American and European collections as well as must-see traveling exhibits.

Ever dreamed of bringing a Broadway production to life? Start small with the Actor’s Theatre of Charlotte, which accepts scripts for its nuVoices Play Festival. Opportunities to act or direct are also available.

From Beethoven to Ben Folds, music director Christopher Warren Green and the Charlotte Symphony always have something great (and unexpected) in store.
