Charlotte isn't known for being a “college town,” but you can still find many fun and unique things to experience in University City, located in northeast Charlotte.
If you’re feeling outdoorsy, start the day at Reedy Creek Park. The whole family can spend the day hiking one of the many trails in the nature preserve, fishing in one of the three ponds or playing 18 holes of disc golf!
Nothing says “back to school” like some football so what better way to spend a Saturday than cheering for the UNC Charlotte 49ers? The Queen City finally has a college football team so come out, tailgate and show some Charlotte pride in the new Jerry Richardson Stadium.
It’s easy to spend a whole afternoon at The Shoppes at University Place. For your first stop, have lunch at Boardwalk Billy’s and enjoy their famous oysters or ribs while overlooking the tranquil lake. If you’re feeling really adventurous, then burn off some of those calories on the paddleboats. The Flying Saucer has got to be one of the most unique bars around and definitely deserves a visit. Boasting over 80 beers on tap, 160 bottles and your choice of burgers or brats, this is a neighborhood gem. After ordering 200 beers on the menu, customers get their very own saucer to proudly display on the wall (or ceiling)! You can always find late-night entertainment at PNC Music Pavilion, whether it’s a pop princess, country tour or comedy show. Spending the night listening to great music under the stars at this open-air venue is a favorite for many Charlotteans.
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day so start the day off right with a big buffet on the water at Lakefront Restaurant, located in the Hilton Charlotte University Place.
Looking for a quick golf outing with the boys? Head over to the Paradise Valley Par 3 golf course to play a quick 18 holes, all less than 100 yards in length!
If you’re craving eclectic cuisine with a contemporary atmosphere, order dinner at FireWater, great for date nights and families alike.
A fan of live music? Unwind or catch up with old friends at Wine Vault, the University area’s destination for great beer, wine and live music.
