AAA recently announced the recipients of the highly coveted four diamond rating, and several Visit Charlotte partners were among those honored. In the lodging category the following hotels were recognized: The Ballantyne Resort, Charlotte Marriott SouthPark, The Duke Mansion, Hilton Charlotte Center City, the Omni Charlotte Hotel, and the Westin Charlotte. In the dining category, the following restaurants were recognized: Bonterra Dining and Wine Room, The McNinch House, and Zebra Restaurant and Fine Catering.
“We’re thrilled AAA chose to honor several of our wonderful partners with this venerated distinction,” said Jerry Thornton, Sales Manager for Partnership Development with Visit Charlotte. “This speaks volumes to the quality of Charlotte’s growing hospitality and tourism industry, a testament to the fact that we are rapidly becoming one of the top convention and tourism destinations in the country.”
The AAA Four Diamond Award winners are a select group. In 2009, only 3.4 percent of the 58,000 AAA Diamond Rated lodgings and restaurants received the prestigious designation. AAA’s Diamond Rating System is the only ratings system that covers all of North America and one of only two that conducts physical, on-site evaluations. It is also the only system that uses full-time, professionally trained evaluators to inspect each property on an annual basis using a set of guidelines that are made available to all establishments. AAA evaluates more properties than any other rating entity.
Visit Charlotte, a division of the Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority, has promoted the Charlotte region for over 25 years as a destination for tourists, a host city for meetings and conventions and a site for sporting events. It employs a staff of approximately 40 that includes satellite sales offices in Chicago and Washington, DC.
