Whether an out-of-town visitor, a native or a newcomer, all are part of the ongoing history and reinvention of the New South. Take a crash course in this fascinating history and earn an honorary degree in “New Southernerness.” Kick off your experience in a classroom setting with a facilitated dialogue and hands-on, object-based lesson where guests get to touch the artifacts. From there, enter the award-winning exhibit “Cotton Fields to Skyscrapers,” for a guided tour through a series of five interactive environments that depict the history of the South from the end of the Civil War until today. Return to the classroom for a fun “pop quiz” where participants share surprises and discuss key lessons learned.
