Abstract Expressionist artist Maria Elena Ferran leads this workshop in conjunction with the Women of Abstract Expressionism special exhibitions at The Mint Museum.
Maria Elena is considered one of New York's early 80's artists; studying painting, photography and design at Sweet Briar College and New York's School of Visual Arts where she entered the New York art scene. Her abstract paintings continually express themes of the human subconscious, nature, spirituality and world events.
The Workshop is designed for art students interested in exploring more deeply the fundamentals of abstract expressionism. Maria Elena will give a short talk, provide a painting demonstration and guided lesson. Students will work in both black & white, and full color acrylic palettes, using paper and canvas that come together to create a successful abstract painting. Students will begin by moving through a series of guided exercises, which will focus on paint application, color, gesture and composition.
