2nd Annual Stand Up for Autism Race aiming to raise $20,000 for IGNITE–a community center in Davidson operated by the Autism Society of NC for young adults with high-functioning autism (HFA) or Asperger's Syndrome (AS). Racing icon Ray Evernham and My Aloha Paddle and Surf host the World Paddle Association (WPA) points race to make it possible for young adults with HFA or AS to access the next steps they need on their path towards independence and self-sufficiency. With 100% of the proceeds supporting a great cause, this public event is family friendly and fun for all ages.
Friday evening is a kickoff party from 6-9 p.m. at Port City Club, including food, beverages, music, & a live auction. On Saturday, races start at 8 a.m. with the WPA Region 6 sanctioned Elite (6.5 mi), Recreational (2.5 mi), and then kids (.5 mi) race. The awards ceremony on the beach starts at 11 a.m. Followed by a luau featuring the Island Hula Girls along with island music, food, and fun activities for all ages.
