Brixx Wood Fired Pizza has several restaurants throughout the city, including a convenient location near Time Warner Cable Arena in Uptown as well as the original location in the historic Dilworth neighborhood. Try their staple pies like the Mexican and chicken florentine, or spice things up with the pimento cheese pizza, the pear and gorgonzola pie, or a slice of the Bronx bomber. All Brixx pizzas are cooked in a brick oven, giving them their smoky wood-fired taste. (Gluten free, whole wheat and vegan options available)

FUEL got its start when a few guys from New York wanted to offer real pizza made with the finest ingredients right here in Charlotte. Now 17 years later, FUEL has become a local favorite and a popular late-night snack spot with some locations open until 3 a.m. With thicker crusts and all the toppings your heart desires, FUEL offers artistic pies such as the pyramid pizza, which combines items from each section of the food pyramid. Hawthorne’s New York Pizza & Bar has five locations in and around Charlotte offering a wide selection of New York style pizzas, pastas, baked classics and calzones. Some of their more popular pies include the Elizabeth special with a mix of meats and veggies and the Hawthorne’s special white pizza with ricotta cream sauce, pesto and sun-dried tomatoes. Libretto’s Pizzeria & Italian Kitchen is the place to go if you’re craving authentic New York style pizza. Libretto’s brings the staples of the Big Apple to the Queen City with more traditional toppings and flavors like pizza bianca, meat lovers and the New Yorker – the pizza that comes with everything from the city with everything. Not in the mood for pizza? They have a menu full of family-style Italian classics like pastas, heros, wings, calzones and more. (Whole wheat and vegetarian options)

Mellow Mushroom has been keeping it mellow since 1974. The Mellow Mushroom family has grown over the past 40 years with several locations opening in the Charlotte area including a new location in Uptown.  Mellow Mushroom specializes in thick crust specialty pizzas like the Thai Dye with curry chicken, mozzarella, Roma tomatoes, onions, basil, cucumbers and Thai chili sauce. Unique to the Charlotte stores, the umami is also a fan favorite pleasing your palate with the combined flavors of of pineapple, bacon, feta, caramelized onions and basil on an olive oil and garlic base. The Pizza Peel & Tap Room has two locations in Charlotte in Plaza Midwood and Cotswold. From the beginning, this local restaurant’s goal was to create the best pizza crust in town – chewy on the inside and crusty on the outside. They break out their pizza menu into meat and veggie options, such as the heart stopper with mozzarella, ham, sausage, beef, pepperoni and bacon. If you’re looking to keep your heart beating, try the Greek with spinach, feta, olives, garlic and a balsamic glaze. Be sure to taste one of their more than 40 beers on tap or play beer poker to get a surprise bottled beer for $2.50. (Gluten free and vegetarian options) 

Pure Pizza is dedicated to using local, sustainable and organically grown ingredients resulting in a true farm-to-fork menu.  Located in 7th Street Public Market in Uptown and Plaza Midwood, Pure Pizza serves up wild mushroom pizza, the T-Rex with organic tomato sauce and local bacon, and the chorizo with tomatoes, fresh organic radishes, onions, cilantro and lime juice. If you’re looking for a healthy pizza option, Pure Pizza is where you’ll find it. (Gluten free, vegan and vegetarian options)

Revolution Ale House’s original location opened in the heart of the historic NoDa arts district in 2008, and a second location opened this year in Midtown. Revolution serves a variety of artisan pizzas such as the fun guy, a pesto pie with pepper jack, spinach, mushrooms and fresh jalapeño peppers. At the NoDa location, be sure to try the NoDa with BBQ pork, caramelized onions and peppadew peppers with a balsamic reduction topping. For a healthier option, they offer grilled pizzas with a cracker crust – try the guacamole! (Organic, Gluten Free and Vegan options)

Wolfgang Puck Pizza Bar’s Charlotte restaurant is the flagship location. Located in Phillips Place near SouthPark Mall, Wolfgang Puck is fine dining in the world of pizza but offers a casual, inviting and rustic atmosphere. Here you’ll find artisan pizzas topped with wild mushrooms and truffle oil, lamb sausage or even smoked salmon with dill cream, salmon roe, red onions and chives – yum!
