Amateur Sporting Event Planning

Charlotte has the perfect venue for sporting events of all sizes, from Charlotte Motor Speedway to small parks.

When it comes to hosting amateur sporting events, Charlotte is a pro. The city has hosted a diverse range of events, from the CIAA Men’s & Women’s Basketball Tournament to the Disc Golf World Championships. Charlotte can easily meet and exceed the needs of organizers, athletes and their families.

Large Sports Facilities

There’s no sporting event too big for Charlotte. Professional-level facilities like Charlotte Motor Speedway, Bank of America Stadium and Time Warner Cable Arena might be home to NASCAR, the Carolina Panthers and the Charlotte Bobcats, but they can also host events that make amateur athletes feel like pros.

When Olympic kayakers need to train, they look to the U.S. National Whitewater Center, which boasts the largest man-made whitewater river in the world. With world-class whitewater rafting, flatwater and whitewater kayaking, as well as a conference center, this massive complex is the perfect venue for many water-based sporting events. Families of athletes and organizers will appreciate the chance to try out the water activities, rock climbing, mountain biking and zip-lines.

Mecklenburg County Park & Recreation

With more than 18,000 acres of parks and nature preserves, 200 recreational facilities, large venues like Memorial Stadium and Grady Cole Center, and countless playing fields, Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation has a myriad of choices for athletic events and tournaments.

Competitive swimmers will feel at home at Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center. It hosts events like Charlotte UltraSwim, which is part of the USA Swimming Grand Prix Series and attracts national champions and Olympians.

Even horses have a venue just for them. Latta Plantation Equestrian Center, located within Latta Plantation Nature Preserve near the shore of Mountain Island Lake, hosts equestrian events in a beautiful, natural environment.
