Mike Butts, Executive Director of Visit Charlotte, has been named to the Destination Marketing Association International (DMAI) Board of Directors. The 90 year old organization is the largest association of and resource for destination marketing organizations as well as convention and visitors bureaus in the world.
Butts joins the board compromised of international leaders in the tourism industry, including members from locations as far reaching as Las Vegas, Mexico, Vancouver, Chicago and London. “Joining the Destination Marketing Association International Board of Directors is an opportunity to serve our industry from a broader perspective,” says Butts. “I am appreciative of the opportunity to serve such a distinguished organization and am eager to work towards initiatives that will help grow our industry.”
The mission of DMAI, to “enhance the professionalism, effectiveness, and image of destination marketing organizations worldwide,” is successfully fulfilled through its ongoing support of its members. The educational resources, networking events, and marketing benefits DMAI provides increase the success of more than 625 destination marketing organizations in over 25 countries including the U.S., Australia, Brazil, Egypt, and China.
Butts brings a wealth of knowledge and experience into this new role. As Executive Director of Visit Charlotte since 2003, he has been instrumental in not only the continuation of great success with the steadily growing regional destination of Charlotte, but in the formation of the new Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority (CRVA). Mike is immediate past chair of the Destination Marketing Association of NC (DMANC) and currently serves on the board of directors of the NC Travel and Tourism Coalition and the NC Travel Industry Association. Mike’s industry affiliations include the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE), American Bus Association (ABA), Meeting Planners International (MPI), Green Meeting Alliance, Charlotte Green Team and Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA). Mike also is a past board member of the Religious Conference Management Association (RCMA). He is a graduate of Ohio State University.
