I went to the old location a few times and I liked that it was so accessible from the lightrail. The new location has a little less charm and feels a little less authentic. That doesn't really matter though because what matters is the food and it's excellent. The fish and chips is gigantic and very tasty, there's a good beer selection and they have a lot of classic English dishes. The new location doesn't nail the pub feel but it's hard to get something this close to English food in the south.
We went to hear live music from Thomas Anthony( amazing!) and decided to order food! Y'all, the cottage pie was perfection! It was served at the proper temperature and had the right amount of brown sauce! I didn't want to eat it too quickly because I didn't want my dining experience to end! The atmosphere was great and the service was above -grade! Go here!
The atmosphere and food were excellent. The service was poor. The server had a pretty bad attitude and was quite unfriendly until the presentation of the check. The food and beer came out quickly and it was not crowded so I do not think it was a question of staffing versus just an unfriendly server. I would not write off this third or fourth incarnation of Big Ben, but definitely try and find a server with a good attitude.
Not a single staff member had a mask on during a time where masks are mandated indoors. That should have been the first red flag for us to turn around. The Fish & Chips tasted like frozen microwaved meal. We were 1 of two tables and some how we had to go find the staff members to get some extras we needed. Staff was just hanging out and playing around. Beer selection was pretty bland. I'd have given this a pass if everything else was good, but I would have liked a decent pint during the overall total lackluster experience. So that will be my first and last time at the new location.
Great atmosphere and staff
