On a day like today when I find out that the only true eastern style barbecue place in Charlotte is closing that I break down and wish I had enough money to keep Spoons going. I have spent so many wonderful times here and have so many fond memories of Bill and his family that I guess will have to suffice, Because I know that the couple pounds of barbecue and slaw and beans will only last a couple days. Truly a great loss.
A Charlotte staple that has been around for years and remains unchanged. They do traditional eastern NC BBQ and they do it well. For those that don't know eastern NC BBQ is usually whole hog and chopped with a vinegar sauce finish. It's not pulled pork with a bunch of different sauces to try. Staff is super friendly and it's a family run business. The pork is always consistent and a great representation of eastern NC BBQ. Hush puppies are some of the best I have ever had. Brunswick stew is on point. I had the ribs this time and my wife had the small BBQ platter. Ribs were par for the course. I have had better but the texture was great on them. They don't fall off the bone because real ribs are not supposed to. They come clean off the bone when you bite into them which is what you want.
Great BBQ. Have been a customer for 30 years. So sorry to see that you are closing. Best wishes to you all. Clem Huffman, South City Print.
The people and the food are wonderful! I'm from Lexington and this is the best real BBQ you can find in Charlotte. It isn't pasted with thick sauce, because it's real BBQ. The slaw and Brunswick stew are good, too. Great family owned restaurant!
Food was good and so was the service. Food came out fast. Waitress was awesome and she was waiting on about 20 people by herself.
