The newest exhibit at Discovery Place Science is making big waves and giving you the chance to explore the depths of the ocean while staying on land. OceanXperience is an immersive traveling exhibit where you can learn what life is like as an ocean scientist.
Climb aboard a replica of OceanXplorer, the most advanced research and filmmaking vessel in the world. Put yourself in the shoes of a real ocean scientist as you make your way through the exhibit, modeled after real rooms and areas onboard the OceanXplorer. Complete interactive, hands-on STEM-based research tasks and track your missions with a personalized radio-frequency identification (RFID) wristband.
Choose from three deep-sea research missions based on your aquatic interests: humpback whales, great hammerhead sharks and orcas. Conduct experiments just like an OceanXplorer scientist as you uncover the wildlife and biodiversity of some of the ocean’s most remote locations and discover how to connect people with this vital resource.
Study orca group dynamics, track the movements of a humpback whale by virtually tagging them, pilot a remotely operated vehicle to identify species and so much more. Ages 13 and older can also experience the ground-breaking HoloLab, where HoloLens goggles create powerful augmented reality scenes that allow you to view and interact with holographic imagery.
Perfect for all ages, OceanXperience allows you to focus solely on your mission or break off onto side missions for longer exploration or multiple visits. While there aren’t any aquatic species in-person at this exhibit, soundscapes, a 360-degree theater and tactile activities throughout the space bring this underwater environment to life.
OceanXperience runs through Sept. 7 and is included with general admission to Discovery Place Science.
