Charlotte is a city for all types of adventures. Whether you’re a solo traveler looking to explore or a local entertaining family and friends, there’s an array of activities and experiences to take part in every day of the week. If hanging out in Uptown (what locals refer to as the downtown area) sounds like your scene, make sure to pay a visit to Discovery Place Science—a leading science and technology museum in the Carolinas. The popular attraction offers up plenty of family-friendly exhibits throughout the year, but their latest features a toy that’s sure to bring back some childhood memories.
The Towers of Tomorrow with LEGO® Bricks is a traveling exhibit that landed in Charlotte just last month. The concept was created by Ryan McNaught, one of only 14 certified LEGO professionals in the world. And if you are expecting to walk in to a small LEGO display, think again. The exhibit consists of more than 577,000 LEGO pieces that have been transformed into a wonderland of 20 iconic, gravity-defying skyscrapers from across the globe—from the CN Tower in Toronto to China’s Shanghai Tower (made of more than 104,000 LEGO bricks). In total, there’s more than 1.5 tons of LEGO bricks in the towers.
To make your visit even more special and interactive, there are 200,000 LEGO bricks available for guests to create their own design. We’re thinking the Charlotte crown would be a good creation to start with.
The traveling exhibit is now open through September 2. Tickets (include full-day admission) are $22 for adults, $18 for children, $20 for seniors, $3 for members and FREE for children younger than 2.
