“Silent Spaces” at Anne Neilson Fine Art
From Sept. 3-28, “Silent Spaces” showcases a world where form, color and perspective create a meditative experience, with works from artists Jerry Cantwell, Kim Amell, Steven Walker and Ani Kinyon.
“Repossessions” at the Harvey B. Gantt Center
Opening Sept. 4, “Repossessions” is a group exhibition from seven Black artists, Chelle Barbour, Marcus Brown, Rodney Ewing, Shanequa Gay, Kenyatta A.C. Hinkle (Olomidara Yaya), Curtis Patterson and Lava Thomas, that’s inspired by the concept of reparations.
Yashua Klos: “Cornerstones” at the Harvey B. Gantt Center
Opening Sept. 11, “Cornerstones” by artist Yashua Klos features large-scale woodblock print collages made of building materials and architectural elements that allude to the built environment.
“Sown Together: New Voices in Contemporary Textile Art” at the Harvey B. Gantt Center
Opening Sept. 11, “Sown Together: New Voices in Contemporary Textile Art,” in collaboration with the McColl Center, explores identity, memory, migration and the African diaspora through textile works made with innovative material practices.
“The Evolving Dream” at VAPA Center
Opening Sept. 12, view the works of artist Nicholas M. Stewart in his solo exhibit, “The Evolving Dream,” showcasing abstract florals, at VAPA Center’s Gallery Nine Eighteen Nine.
“Making an Impression: Pioneering Latin American Printmakers” at the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art
Opening Sept. 26, “Making an Impression: Pioneering Latin American Printmakers” highlights printmaking as a dynamic medium that goes beyond the flat page with works by artists Rufino Tamayo, Jesús Rafael Soto, Regina Silveira and Analia Saban.
“Wild at Heart” at Anne Neilson Fine Art
From Oct. 7-31, “Wild at Heart” features works from artists Kevin Sloan, Barbara Rudolph and Daniela Schweitzer that display whimsical animals through rich texture and vibrant color.
“Interventions: Weaving Joy, Woven Resistance” at the Mint Museum Randolph
Opening Oct. 17, “Interventions: Weaving Joy, Woven Resistance” was designed to spark conversation about the past and present through artist Katrina Sánchez woven art and her Panamanian heritage.
“¡Pleibol! In the Barrios and the Big Leagues” at the Charlotte Museum of History
Through Oct. 18, browse artifacts and hear the untold stories of the Latino communities that helped make American baseball what it is today. “¡Pleibol! In the Barrios and the Big Leagues” unveils how the baseball diamond has served as a uniting gathering place for all.
“Caravaggio | Revolution:” Baroque Masterpieces from the Roberto Longhi Foundation at the Mint Museum Uptown
Through Oct. 25, “Caravaggio | Revolution” features an original Caravaggio masterpiece along with more than 40 works by Baroque masters in an exhibition that explores how the artist’s radical realism transformed painting, modern film, photography and pop culture.
“Bold & Marigold” at Anne Neilson Fine Art
From Nov. 4-28, “Bold & Marigold” celebrates the beauty of florals in bloom. Detailed pieces from artists Joey Lancaster and Emily Morgan Brown beautifully capture every detail of florals, right down to the delicate petals.
“Collection, Reframed:” Jiha Moon at the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art
From now through Nov. 9, “Collection, Reframed” showcases contemporary artist Jiha Moon’s interpretation of the Bechtler’s collection, exploring representations of women across time.
“American Revolution” The Augmented Exhibition” at the Charlotte Museum of History
America’s 250 celebration doesn’t have to end after July 4. Experience “American Revolution: The Augmented Exhibition” at the Charlotte Museum of History until April 2027 and discover the Carolinas’ role in the Revolutionary War through a special gallery dedicated to local history.
Performing Arts
“Come From Away” at Theatre Charlotte
Theatre Charlotte presents a production of “Come From Away,” Sept. 11-Oct. 4. This Tony Award-winning musical tells the true story of airline passengers from all over the world who were grounded in a small Canadian town in the wake of 9/11.
“A Year with Frog and Toad” at McColl Family Theatre
Children’s Theater of Charlotte presents “A Year with Frog and Toad,” Sept. 19-Oct. 11 at McColl Family Theatre at ImaginOn. This Tony Award-nominated musical follows the adventures of two amphibious friends with different personalities.
Charlotte Ballet’s Black Box Series
Charlotte Ballet’s Black Box Series showcases three dynamic works, including Mthuthuzeli November’s “From Africa With Love”, artistic director Alejandro Cerrudo’s “Dos y Dos y Dos” and a new creation from German-American duo FLOCK, Oct. 2-17 at the Center for Dance.
“The Great Gatsby” at Belk Theater
Based on the classic American novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald, “The Great Gatsby” comes to Belk Theater, Oct. 13-18. This Tony Award-winning musical brings the Roaring Twenties to life on stage through a jazz-pop score and extravagant choreography.
“Maytag Virgin” at The Arts Factory
Carolina Actors Studio presents “Maytag Virgin” at The Arts Factory, Oct. 16-31. This charming story between two neighbors is filled with wit, warmth and an unexpected connection that begins with a broken dryer.
Nate Jackson at The Comedy Zone
One year after his hit comedy special on Netflix, Nate Jackson is bringing his Big Dog tour to The Comedy Zone at AvidXChange Music Factory. Don’t miss this viral stand-up comic in one of five shows, Nov. 12-14.
“STOMP” at Knight Theater
Feel the pulse-pounding beat in your seat during “STOMP,” Nov. 17-18 at Knight Theater. This renowned show features an eight-member troupe that uses everything except for conventional percussion instruments to create electrifying rhythms.
Community Events
Yiasou Greek Festival
The Yiasou Greek Festival is back for another year, Sept. 11-13 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral. This weekend-long celebration of Greek culture features exhibits, authentic cuisine, entertainment and live music, art, shopping and more.
International Festival
The Barnhardt Student Activity Center, on the campus of UNC Charlotte, transforms into a global marketplace during the International Festival on Saturday, Sept. 19. Stop by booths representing more than 35 nations that feature a variety of art, crafts, costumes and food for sale.
Festival of India
This year marks the 30th anniversary of Festival of India, a vibrant celebration of India’s rich cultural heritage, Sept. 19-20, at Belk Theater. Watch dazzling Bollywood dance performances, browse colorful art and taste authentic cuisine from across India.
Charlotte Film Festival
The Charlotte Film Festival showcases independent films from all genres at Independent Picture House, from Sept. 22-27. Get tickets for moving documentaries, animated shorts, student films and more, as well as selections from some of the world's best film festivals.
Festival in the Park
Festival in the Park brings an array of art, music, food and more to Freedom Park, Sept. 25-27. This free, family-friendly festival showcases works from local and national artists in a variety of mediums.
FabFest
Come together to enjoy the music of The Beatles at FabFest, Oct. 2-3 at Knight Theater. This festival starts with Tosco Music Beatles Tribute, performed by local and regional acts, followed by an art contest, open mic, cover song contest and more.
Hola Charlotte Festival
Hola Charlotte Festival is the Queen City’s largest Hispanic heritage celebration, Saturday, Oct. 3 along Tryon Street in Uptown. This festival showcases the diversity and range of Latin American cultures through live music, dance performances and more.
K-Fest
Experience the sights, sounds and tastes of Korea at K-Fest, Saturday, Oct. 3. Seoul Food Meat Co. and Urban District Market host this day filled with Korean cultural games, live music, taekwondo demonstrations, Korean food and drinks, plus a vendor’s market and K-pop dance contest.
Charlotte Bookpalooza
Truist Field transforms into a book-lover’s paradise on Saturday, Oct. 10 during Charlotte Bookpalooza. This literary festival features author signings, panels, vendors, local makers, giveaways and more to support Books on the House’s mission to provide free books to children and adults in the region.
Parada Dominicana
Celebrate Dominican heritage and culture with a lively showcase of music, traditional dance, flavorful food and vibrant art Parada Dominicana, Sunday, Oct. 11 at Camp North End’s Boileryard Area.
Charlotte Chalk Art Festival
The annual Charlotte Chalk Art Festival is a brightly colored competition, Oct. 17-18 at NoDa Brewing. For two days, watch colorful street art come to life and participate in art-focused activities and crafts.
