Chez Marie Pâtisserie
William Lindsey
Charlotte's fortunate to have top-notch ptisserie and bakery shops of the quality of Chez Marie. It appears to be owned and staffed by people whose first language is French, and who know traditional French baking exceptionally well. The quiche we had for lunch was first-rate. As I ate my quiche lorraine, it was clear to me that no shortcuts had been taken in making the pastry, which had a beautiful butter taste. For dessert, we shared a lemon tart that was almost too beautiful to cut into and which was fantastic.

A little gem of Parisian goodness, Chez Marie Patisserie is sweetly tucked near HomeGoods and SouthPark Mall, making it the perfect stop while youre out shopping. I met Claudia on this visit, she is sweet and aims to please. Although I took many photos of goodies, I kept it classic for my first visit: a traditional croissant paired with an Americano. The coffee brand is Pellini, and I have to say, it was smooth and perfectly balanced, definitely not bitter like some can be. Just right. And the pastries? Some looked like edible works of art. Women especially love French Macarons, and over on the wall is a box that they will fill with your choices. They also have cards at the register to write a sweet note. Ill be back to try more and will gladly add to this review. Bon apptit Josephine Local

I tried the smoked salmon croissant, and it was wonderful. The venue itself was nice; howeversince it is a bit smallthere was a sign asking customers not to occupy the tables for longer than an hour, which I found a bit off-putting. Aside from that, everyone was friendly, and ordering was easy.

this place is so cute ! the service was very good with attentive staff that took time to explain the pastries. i was asked several times if i wanted more hot water for my tea. the plates were cleared quickly after finishing our pastry. the place is intimate, but not stuffy. the lemon meringue is worth another trip alone! just perfect. the earl grey i had was not very fragrant. just tasted like black tea. i would suggest they use smaller plates and utensils for serving certain items. as you see my one dessert looked tiny on the plate. i will revisit. i really enjoyed myself.
