Nellie's Southern Kitchen
- Open Now
Nellie’s, located just outside of Charlotte, is known for three things: providing true Southern hospitality to all diners; creating authentic cooking just like grandma would make; and the name comes from the matriarch of the Jonas family (yes, that Jonas family)
Cuisine Type: Southern
Ambience: Casual Dining
Both my girlfriend and her mom love celebrating their birthdays at this place. The food is awesome, with a few interesting twists on traditional southern cuisine. They have a great variety of beers and wines. But let me tell you about what really sets this place apart in my opinion: it's the live music. As I understand it, there's a strong musical background in the family that owns the restaurant, and it's reflected in the design and ambiance of the place in such a way that really sets it a notch above everywhere else. People will get up, pair up, and ballroom dance to the music, and the band always takes requests. This is coming from someone that dislikes overly noisy environments and cramped places full of people, so trust me when I say they pull this off tastefully and appropriately, and I really admire and appreciate that. All of this makes for an absolutely great environment -- this restaurant is awesome. Whether you live in Charlotte or you're just visiting, I highly recommend you check this out.
The food here is EXCELLENT!!!!! Best brunch I've had in a long time!!! I had the chicken & waffles & a wonderfully created mimosa. My better half had bananas foster French toast. 1. She never eats all her food & 2. She doesn't like bananas!!! SHE ATE IT ALL!!!.....ambience was eclectic and charming....staff was very friendly without being overbearing! Move over Charleston SC & Savannah Ga....If Nellie's is any indication of what Belmont is....you guys have new competition!!!!
We came here for a rehearsal dinner this past weekend. The staff was super accommodating and made sure the night was awesome. The food was great and I wish I had a chance to come back and try other items as the dinner was buffet style. The drink selection was very good and they had a nice selection of wines and beer. The downstairs room was set up with various tables and decorated really nicely. The upstairs roof top bar was fun and had a fantastic layout. There was a really nice fire pit, rocking chairs, high tops, and regular tables.
I enjoyed visiting this restaurant. The food was good, not great but definitely good. The location and atmosphere were excellent and service was fairly attentive. We sat on the upstairs deck and was quite peaceful. Sunday brunch, so the menu was slightly different than during regular hours. I would definitely return if I am in town again.
