Time Out Youth
Heather Blake
From a parent perspective: This place is amazing! As a supportive parent it was important that our daughter found a place to make friends in a safe and inclusive environment. She's had trouble her whole life feeling included in her age group. She's struggled at times with depression, loneliness and her identity. She's been going to TOY for a few months and this momma has cried happy tears on many occasions because she's finally found "her people". She's thriving, has done much better in school and overall is just a much happier person. Thank you to TOY for being the awesome human beings that you are!

This place helped me out so much. I came here in hopes of finding a place to run from my family that did not accept me for me, and in the end this place helped us become closer and now we are working on our relationship. The moment I walked into this beauty of a building, I loved it. There were so many kids like me, who all just need love and support to grow, and they had it. A couple of weeks prior to my visit they had a prom based event that really made me smile. There are so many resources here to help so many people. Whoever out there who thinks that there could never be a place where you could call perfection, has never seen time out for youth.

This is the safest place I've ever been to. It's informal in the best way, where you can talk about anything from politics to oral sex and be respected, listened, and have a non-judgemental space. And it's a wonderful mixture of serious and fun - there's board games, Wii, all sorts of video games [they have three boxes full of it, I think], they're always updating the space, and my gosh, ALL THE RAINBOW STUFF. I just walked in and marveled at the walls with rainbow flags. I have no idea how they manage to get all the funding for all their food and programs, but its amazing. They're so organized with everything they do, and the people there really make the place. On the less busy days, there's not much to do, but its such a safe place you can go ahead and come in during drop in hours and fall asleep. I've done that before, quite a few people I know have done that for the extent of their stay. The staff will let you know if they need to be left alone, but otherwise you're free to walk in and just start a chat - even the director of the place! I wish I could come here more, but this place is the first "home" I've really had, and it's had enough of an effect of my life that I want to go to a college in this state so I can come back and visit as often as I can when I have a car. If you ever have a chance, please don't deprive yourself of this haven.

Time Out Youth has become my favorite place in the world. I'm free to be as me as I wish to be, and my social anxiety almost disappears. I'm surrounded by kids like me, by adults with resources and nothing but love and kindness for those around them. I couldn't possibly imagine a better place for queer youth. There's food, games, drinks, comfy areas, a quiet space, therapy and counseling options, outside resources, and more. If you're looking for a safe space for your child or, for yourself if you're a youth, please, come here. You won't regret it. It's...it's a home and a family that I've never had.

A great place for any LGBTQA+ individual yo come and hangout, chill, play and just breathe. You can be unapologetically you here and to make everything better your name and pronouns are very much respect. So if you need a family away from family please come down. The staff is amazing and the resources are great. Make TOY a home for you.
