Southern Strain Plaza Midwood is not just a local brewery, but a hidden gem that embodies the true essence of craft beer. They focus on creating clean, intentionally-made beers, fostering a welcoming community atmosphere. The owners are deeply engaged, and their passion resonates through every aspect of the brewery. Servers are friendly, attentive, and adept at engaging customers, making it ideal for both social gatherings and solo visits. The brewery is dog-friendly too; simply ask the beertenders for a water bowl and check out locally made dog treats available at the bar. They also offer light snacks for humans such as Daves popcorn and artisanal alfajores, and encourage patrons to order delivery or pickup from nearby restaurants. With its inviting ambiance and outstanding beers, Southern Strain Plaza Midwood might just be Charlottes best-kept secret. And if you're lucky enough to stumble in when Catie is working, consider yourself blessed be.

This was my first visit to Southern Strain and I was impressed! Its very dog friendlythey even sell dog treats at the bar. Im not a beer drinker but they do have prosecco on tap and wine in a can (red, white, and ros) for the non-beer drinkers like me. The vibe and decor are friendly and inviting. Lots of cool art on the walls too. Its located next to Harris Teeter so you can pick up groceries on your way home!

This place brings the Louis Pasteur-art deco vibe of the original Concord taproom to the urban-funky Plaza Midwood for a delicious combination of fun and thirst-quenching, Bart-crafted libations. The staff are friendly, games are common, and dogs are welcome. What else could you want?

Southern Strain is a beautiful, open, and relaxing spot my boyfriend and I love to visit as a night cap before we head home! Our bartender Jordan absolutely made our night and was such a joy to our evening that was soured before we arrived. Another location in Charlotte was rude and made terrible drinks, but Jordans kind disposition really made all the difference for us when we arrived. We came for the Southern Strain beer but will stay because of the Southern Hospitality. If you visit, you wont be disappointed. Spacious, clean, and delicious- this spot does not disappoint!

Nice new brewery addition to the busy Plaza Midwood scene. New location for this Concord, NC brewery. Clubhouse size taproom, with nice wall murals, regular and high top seating and open doors to a small street side patio. Beers are solid, although not having their flagship brews available when I visited disappointed. No food here in this location except for an occasional food truck appearance. Parking an issue as it is in the area generally. Overall, a little disappointed with this expansion location after looking forward to it for so long.
