Catalú
Martin Thomas
We have had Catalu a couple of times: the first time was as an amity event for our apartment and the second was for a date night. Both times, the food and drinks were amazing and very tasty! One things we love about Catalu is that they have a special every day of the week, which is very thoughtful and rare for a higher end restaurant. This most recent experience as a date night, we ordered the Patatas Bravas and the Catalu Paella. The patatas were amazing, hot and well seasoned. The Paella was pretty good, as usual, but we were disappointed to find that about half of the sirloin steak was fat and undercooked. It was supposed to be an 8 ounce steak for two, however only about half of the steak was meaty and the rest was fat (the whole bottom of the 5th piece and both of the last pieces were fatty all the way through). The steak was also a little under donewe werent even able to pull the meat apart. This was disappointing because we know the restaurant is so good and on point every time, the kitchen just missed this one. The service, vibe and cleanliness of the restaurant were great. The food was amazing, except for the steak on the paella. Hopefully the kitchen will pay more attention moving forward. The steak was very well seasoned and the rest of the Paella was amazing, but if a guest is paying for a 8 ounce sirloin for two, then they should receive that. Overall, we will definitely be going back and (hopefully) will be able to enjoy the Catalu Paella at its full potential!

Dined with a party of 5 last night. Service was perfect the moment we walked in and the rest of the night. Food was incredible, as was the wine and sangria. Chris (manager ) provided us with knowledge and recommendations, one of which being a fantastic 2017 Elias Mora wine from Toro, Spain. The Spanish wines at this restaurant are unmatched anywhere else in Charlotte. I recommend the Catalu Paella. Go here and enjoy

Catalu has been on my list for far too long. We walked in and were able to grab a spot at the bar. Very small bar so go early or get reservations ahead of time. Drink list was great but my eyes kept gravitating to the spirit free section. Panthers punch and Faux mule were both excellent with tequila. Gintonics are not for me but are featured heavily on the menu so I gave it a try and it was pretty good. Bartender was excellent, gave good recommendations and feedback. The food was exquisite. If we did not have plans later I would have ordered 9 more items and gone into a food coma. Empanadas were crispy, tender and juicy filling, with an excellent light sauce that lets the empanada flavors shine. Pulpo cooked to perfection and wonderful w crispy potatoes. The piquillo peppers with whipped goat cheese are an absolute must. You will find this dish prepared many different ways depending on where you go, but this delicate preparation with whipped goat cheese, balsamic reduction and a little breadcrumb for texture is perfection. Waited too long to come but will be coming back very soon. Also check out their deals. $1 mimosas on Sundays and a bunch of other weekday deals with great value.

We ordered the brunch and everything was amazing. The croquetas were perfectly crispy and full of flavor, the burger was juicy and delicious, and the paella was absolutely incredible. The restaurant itself is beautiful and has a really nice atmosphere that makes you want to stay and enjoy the moment. The food, the presentation, and the overall vibe made the whole experience even better. I would definitely recommend this place if you want to have a great brunch and enjoy delicious food in a lovely restaurant.

Kristin with Offline - Absolutely wonderful experience. The staff were so friendly and helpful, the food was outstanding, and everything is such a reasonable price, even for what feels like a high end restaurant. Will definitely be back.
