Mr. Tokyo - Monroe

My family is very familiar with Mr. Tokyo. We frequently visited the Matthew's location but over a period if time saw the service get worse and the quality of the we food geet worse. We decided to try the Monroe location. The food was prepared fresh and for the most part was good. Our server was very nice and did a good job. Unfortunately there was nothing that stood out in regards to the food. Average at best.

Seating took time, hostess area wasnt as coordinated. Once seated a very friendly waiter took our order. The food took a while to be ready and it arrived randomly. Sushi quality was great. The water drinks however, had somewhat moldy aftertaste. We switched to soda water and it didnt improve. I assume it was the glasses - how they were washed.

Went to Mr. Tokyo for the first time on May 20th 2026, as we just moved to the area and were looking for a good local Japanese spot. My wife and I knew nothing about the spot, but after today heres a good/bad breakdown. Good: the unlimited sushi and hibachi deal is great. The food itself was extremely tasty, and the menu options and prices were good. Service was adequate as well. Bad: the restaurant is not well maintained. The floors (everywhere) were sticky and dirty, with trash on the floors and nobody cleaned anything during our hour long stay there. Food was tossed on the floor, straw wrappers, receipts, etc. The table, although cleaned, was wet and sticky due to the epoxy/sealant coming off the table. All in all, as good as the food tastes, I cant recommend it nor will we be back because of the lack of cleanliness and hygiene.
