This is probably going to be one of my new favorite spots. The food was so good. The home made spring rolls were so freaking amazing, I wished we ordered more. Cast Iron Seafood Fried Rice, yes, please... definitely enough to share for two. Table next to us got the Pineapple Fried rice... served in half of a pineapple... looked incredible. And the manager was super helpful in telling us what to order and just friendly. While I'm not freaking out these days about "social distancing" I think many will appreciate that they do a good job spreading people out and not just throwing up awkward plastic walls to try and "protect" you.
The staff is friendly, but the prices are steep and the food is mostly just okay - we got the veggie spring rolls, pineapple fried rice, half roast duck and snow pea shoots. The spring rolls and fried rice were very bland. The roast duck had excellent crispy skin but the flavor of the meat was rather disappointing - lacked any sort of intentional flavor so it had this gamey sweetness which isn't appetizing. The snow pea shoots were excellent though - the only thing that was seasoned properly. I think this place might be good for someone inexperienced with Asian food, but if you expect bold authentic flavors this place falls a bit short, in my opinion.
When I first read the reviews on this place, I thought maybe it was too good to be true. I dined in and ordered 3 appetizers and ordered five different dishes. amazing..amazing.amazing!! They have really great food. Service was also a plus. Some items on the Menu is shareable, another plus.
Our server was Claire, very attentive. She made sure we had a great experience! She was busy yet still contributed to our unique experience. She made it worthwhile. We definitely will ask for her again!!!
The modernity of Open Rice offers a refreshing take on the "family style" dining experience which was very enjoyable. My party of 8 and I attended on a Saturday evening, the wait was about 30 minutes which seems very standard given it was a weekend at dinner time. The waitress who attended to our party was very accommodating, quick, and very friendly. One person in my party is allergic to sesame oil, our waitress made sure to relay the allergy to the kitchen and was considerate enough to let us know which dishes had sesame oil while the food was coming out, very cool! The service was very quick, our food started coming out 15 minutes after ordering, this was very impressive given how busy it was. The food was delicious, however the portions seem a little small, especially the big ticket items like the bulgogi and the bang bang chicken/shrimp which was a bit disappointing. If you attend with a larger party you really have to portion the food to ensure everyone gets their share, I feel for the price the portions should be a tad more. However, this minor critique did not hinder my enjoyment of Open Rice, it is a fun place to bond with friends and family over some delicious food.
