Orrman's Cheese Shop

I thought I reviewed Orrmans but I see I didnt so heres a VERY late review! We came here a few months back for raclette night and it did NOT disappoint. Despite being in 7th St Market, I felt like I was in a European caf or in places Ive been to in NYC so I was really happy Charlotte had a place like this with the same vibe. The Good: the food, the raclette, the vibe, and the service. We were able to pick out the perfect bottle of red from the shop across the way that complemented the cheese perfectly. Basic raclette, which is what we got, is raclette over boiled potatoes, bread, and gherkins - $20. I should have sprung the extra $4 for the raclette with charcuterie but I didnt because I thought it would be too much food. The normal raclette was a small/good size portion but I definitely couldve used some meat so next time Ill get that. We ended up getting a tin of delicious sardines that our cheesemonger recommended so chat with them about their packaged fish if youre a fan! The small starter salad and chocolate pot de crme were the perfect opening and dessert to the meal. Keep in mind, portions arent standard American restaurant size AND the cheeses are VERY high quality so be prepared to pay more for the quality! Some might call it pretentious but I say its a good value for the quality. The Meh: as with all vendors in 7th St Market, they close at 7 because thats when the market closes. If youre looking for a nice, date night spot, you better get it in early! I didnt realize the market closed at 7 and we were there until closing time but Orrmans staff did not rush us which we really appreciated. I dont like being THAT person because I know people have lives to get back to, so I rushed myself when I wouldve liked to have chilled a bit - but thats on me. I hope the markets hours increase soon now that COVID is better! The Bad: nope, nothing. 5 starts! I see they moved to a bigger spot within the market so I will for sure be back for another raclette night! This time with charcuterie (on top of more sardines haha). Easy access from the light rail or theres tons of parking in the parking garage which you can get validated within the market.

Big selection and dont be scared to ask questions about the cheese they know a lot about it; I was impressed! Board recs were good and the Gouda, plum chutney & pickled green tomatoes grilled cheese was insane actually lol.

Holy smokes. I am so happy we found Orrmans! We ordered a meat and cheese platter to enjoy for Christmas day. Picked it up a couple days before, awesome selection, friendly and knowledgeable workers and the food (and our platter!) was INCREDIBLE. Already looking forward to our next visit and whatever occasion arises so we can order another charcuterie board

The best sandwiches! We also go up there every Saturday for quiche. The staff is always so friendly and personable. Highly recommend!
