Pio Pio Ballantyne
Authentic cuisine with excellent value. We ordered the Latin combo, mango juice, sweet tea, and garlic shrimp. Our server noted my husband is not supposed to eat pork for his health and pointed out items he asked for would not be best for him, which I really appreciated. We will be back!
I go more for the square, deep dish pizza. But the hand tossed pies at Pio Pio were excellent. You can tell this isn't your mass produced pizzas. Lots of cheese. I got red onions, and there were tons on it. And they weren't overly cooked either. I'll definitely be coming back.
Ive been meaning to stop by this place since it opened, and as much as I would like to love it, I cant say I do. Maybe what I ordered was not the best thing to order for the first time or my expectations were too high. The 1/4 chicken was so small it took prob couple of bites to eat it all and lacked on seasoning, fries were just fries and the salad basic. Their hot sauce was delicious, and my husbands meal was more appropriate for a restaurant level than mine, he got the pork chops with rice and beans and plantains, he said it was tasty and he would get it again. Service was ok, due to the current situation they only have outside sitting, which was ok, I asked the lady there to clean the table, it looked like this triggered a bit of an attitude from her part and she seemed annoyed, but the gentleman attending our table was courteous pleasant.
We've since moved out of the area but were regulars here for several years. The food is consistently good and service mostly the same. It's a little pricey but portions are hearty and the quality relatively dependable.
Food was delicious. Best house sangria I've ever had. Great service. Can't wait to return!
