King Hedley II, one of August Wilson’s ten American Cycle plays based in Pittsburgh, centers on it’s title character who is home from prison and hell-bent on scraping up money to make a down payment on a second chance. A theatrical descendant of his play ‘Seven Guitars,’ Wilson has reintroduced characters and the Hill District neighborhood from his previous work, which OnQ fans will remember from the last time the company collaborated with director Lou Bellamy. An Obie Award winning director and the producer of Wilson’s first professional production, Bellamy returns to OnQ to bring his legendary sense of authenticity to this lyrical tale of redemption, mortality and identity in the era of Reaganomics. This Tony and Pulitzer nominated work is not to be missed.
