On June 7, 2018, The Artisan’s Palate will host “The Impressionist’s Palate – Art in the Garden,” a fundraising event benefitting McGill Rose Garden and Brand the Moth. The event will be held at McGill Rose Garden in celebration of the installation of three community murals in the gardens by Brand the Moth. Not only will this occasion highlight these two community-based nonprofits, but also includes UMAR Arts, a center for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, as they were vital in the creation of the new murals. The Artisan’s Palate is a local small business curating immersive culinary and visual art experiences. The Artisan’s Palate is a continued supporter of Brand the Moth. Owner Christa Csoka visited Brand the Moth Program Director, Sam Guzzie, while she worked on the stencils at McGill to propose a charity event to benefit Brand the Moth programs. After seeing the garden and hearing all about the project and everyone involved, The Artisan’s Palate with the help of Shop Personal, decided to incorporate everyone into the fundraiser to showcase a true example of the community coming together through the arts. Shop Personal, an online website, offering business services and stories about Charlotte, will also support this event and giving back by helping to tell the story through video and other media outlets.
This is to be an all immersive art event to include curated cocktails and hors d'oeuvres, music, live painting throughout the garden with local artists and more. One of the most special parts about this event is that all the food and cocktails will incorporate herbs grown at the McGill Rose Garden by UMAR and Sean’s Topiaries (small business owned by UMAR participant Sean Reilly). Sean’s Topiaries and other participants from UMAR are working to grow not just the herbs that will be used, but ‘herb centerpieces’ for the tables as well. Sean wanted to give back to Brand the Moth for making his vision come to life and has volunteered as a sponsor for the event. By bringing the public to the garden for this event, we can highlight both the hidden gem that is McGill Rose Garden, Brand the Moth’s programs and community projects, as well as UMAR Arts and all that they do for adults with disabilities in Charlotte. The purpose is to support the ongoing community efforts of McGill Rose Garden and Brand the Moth while celebrating and preserving a historic landmark and the visual arts of Charlotte, North Carolina. Both organizations are dedicated to giving back to the community in creative ways, while providing jobs for local artists & vocational and volunteer opportunities meant to bring people together. Funds raised from ticket sales will directly cover costs of preserving the new murals and to further support the continuation of these nonprofit missions.
