Megan Rapinoe Headline Star- Studded Cast at Charlotte's House of Soccer
World Cup winner and tournament favorite Megan Rapinoe will be attending House of Soccer in Charlotte alongside Crystal Dunn and Heather O’Reilly for a two-day event on July 19 and July 20th.
New York, NY (July 16, 2019)—Relevent Sports Group (RSG) today announced that Megan Rapinoe will lead the star-studded attendance at House of Soccer on July 20 at Romare Bearden Park, which will be a premium, high-touch experience bringing together the community, athletes, clubs, artists, and influencers to live and breathe soccer and the culture that surrounds it.
Rapinoe was awarded the FIFA Women’s World Cup Golden Ball, the FIFA World Cup Golden Boot, and the FIFA Women’s World Cup Player of the Match in the 2019 Women’s World Cup, after defeating the Netherlands 2-0 in the final game. Rapinoe scored the first goal on a penalty kick. She was the tournament’s top scorer, and fan favorite beloved for her signature celebration stance.
Joining the weekend’s events on Friday, July 19th, are Carolina Courage Teammates and World Cup Champions Crystal Dunn (2019) and Heather O’Reilly (2015). Across the two-days, additional local star power will be on hand including Charlotte Hornets Marvin Williams and Cody Zeller, as well as UNC alum and famous freestylers Indi and Skye Cowie. Each day’s festivities will be capped with a free concert with Grits and Biscuits and Walker Hayes.
Charlotte is the only city this summer to host a House of Soccer, and the event kicks off the historic deal between Bank of America Stadium and RSG to bring the International Champions Cup to Charlotte for the next 5 years. This marks the first long-term deal between RSG and a host city, highlighting Charlotte’s commitment to bringing major soccer events to the Queen City.
“Megan Rapinoe’s performance in this year’s World Cup in the face of unimaginable pressure is the stuff legends are made,” said RSG CEO Daniel Sillman. “Yes, she performed at the highest level on the pitch, but her courage to stand up for her beliefs are an inspiration to millions and have inspired the next generation of US Soccer stars and her appearance at House of Soccer will make it an event fans will never forget.”
“Events like House of Soccer are so important in helping to popularize the sport and encourage more people to watch and play,” said 2019 World Cup Champion Megan Rapinoe. “I can’t wait to touch down in Charlotte and get a chance to celebrate soccer with the incredible fans in North Carolina.”
Rapinoe will be hosting a skills training session with The Creative Player Foundation in the afternoon and throwing the ceremonial coin toss ahead of the match.
House of Soccer is an immersive pop-up experience that brings the community, fans, clubs, artists, and influencers together to celebrate their passion for soccer—offering unique access to clubs, players, live entertainment, soccer fanatics and freestylers to interact with the sport on multiple levels.
Culminating the weekend’s events is the July 20th ICC match between ACF Fiorentina and Arsenal. Fans are encouraged to join in the supporters’ march into Bank of America Stadium to cheer both teams on. Tickets for the game can be bought at ticketmaster.com.
