My wife and I walked into Manchester 1812 for reservations, knowing we are 40 minutes early to allow time to visit Room 1812. When we told the hostess the password we were shown the way to the secret door and shown down a flight of stairs to a dimly lit bar. Just that experience alone was priceless. The bar sits in the middle of the room and has plenty of seating. There are sofas that line the outer perimeter of the bar area and are designed for two, maybe three, people in each little section. A great, intimate setting. The walls are decorated with prohibition era pictures and there is a little mock jail cell where you can take your picture "behind bars". The bartender immediately greeted us when we walked to the bar, handing us a menu. The menu was a little hard to read, again very dimly lit, but we muscled through it and ordered drinks. Both of our drinks were impeccably made and probably the best we've had in a very long time. Service takes a little long to get drinks but when you watch the drinks being made - it makes sense. Our total bill was about $42 for two drinks - pricey but the experience offset the price a little.
I rented the speakeasy out for a birthday party for my boyfriend and it was so much fun! A perfect and unique place to host and the event planner, Gabby was so wonderful to work with! I had so many questions and made a lot of changes throughout the week and she was extremely accommodating and helpful. The only downside was that the drinks were extremely expensive and they dont serve beer. A lot of the guests were going to the upstairs bar at the Manchester to order beer which was not convenient and didnt contribute to the spending minimum that we had to meet at 1812. We also had guests who wandered into the speakeasy somehow even though a password was required to enter. Besides those few things everyone had a really great time!
Very highly overpriced. There is nothing special about this location in terms of quality of bar tending or decor. The drink menu had like 8 drinks on it and the bar tenders were unable to provide much variation. Despite the password system the place was packed and sitting at the bar we had multiple people reaching over us to place and receive orders. Not a speakeasy feel at all, just a cash grab. There are plenty of other speakeasy style places in Charlotte that are leaps and bounds above this one. 0/10 do not recommend
Really cool spot. Not a place you spend the whole night because how tight and how long it takes to get drinks. But good place to have a night cap before heading home.
