Bechtler Museum of Modern Art

The Bechtler is a jewel of a museum, only the second in this country designed by the Swiss architect Mario Botta. It is intimate in scale, delightfully arresting in its spaces and vistas and simple and elegant in its materials.

The collection presented includes works by the most important and influential artists of the mid 20th century including Miró, Giacometti, Picasso, Calder, Hepworth, Nicholson, Warhol, Tinguely, Ernst, Le Corbusier, Chillida and many others. Only a handful of these wonderful artworks have been on public view in the United States. Until now, the collection was privately held by the Bechtler family of Switzerland.

Up Close with the Collection
Participants will get a sense of how a small art museum works while learning about the specific artists of the Bechtler collection and how their creative processes informed the artworks that are on view at the time of the participant’s visit. Participants will experience a hands-on art workshop and a gallery tour with sketching.

Behind the Curtain

Ever wonder what happens behind the curtain of your favorite stage show? Now groups can learn about the inner workings of putting on a Broadway production. After the show, participants will receive an exclusive “Meet & Greet” with several cast members backstage where they’ll hear firsthand accounts and be able to ask questions. Educational workshops on topics such as the magic of makeup, the wonders of percussion drumming and puppetry are also available.

Orchid Expedition

Treehouse Vineyards

A classic vineyard with the twist of two treehouses on the property!  Treehouse Vineyards is Monroe's only vineyard in North Carolina's growing wine industry.  We offer both Viniferous and Muscadine wines.  Since muscadines are native to the area they can be grown organically.  There is a very distinct taste difference in wines that have been organically fertilized. 

We offer the unique "flavor" of treehouses.  "Papa's Dream" is available for overnight rentals while "Date Night" is a more rustic retreat for an afternoon or evening.  Our tasting room also features work by local craftsman.  So stop by for a tasting and a tour!


Treetop Escapades

It all started with a family who had a passion for winemaking and a knack for building tree houses. The family-owned and operated Treehouse Vineyards in Monroe, N.C., features viniferous and muscadine wines as well as tree houses available for overnight or daily rentals. During the winery tour and tasting, participants will learn about the winemaking process from the vines to the bottle. Full of southern hospitality, this distinctive winery experience will leave tasters with a memorable experience and a souvenir glass to take home.

Savory Spice Shop offers more than 400 fresh ground herbs and spices, 140 hand-blended seasonings, organic selections and gift sets.  The product is ground and blended to order weekly and is hand packaged in the store.  We provide a fun, inspiring, and educational environment for customers and groups. Customers are encouraged to taste and smell the spices and have packaged only the amounts that they need, starting at as little as a half-ounce. Savory Spice Shop resides in Atherton Mill and Market in historic South End. Owner/Operators are local Charlotte residents Amy and Scott MacCabe.

The Olde Mecklenburg Brewery (OMB), located in the heart of south Charlotte, produces premium, all natural beer and delivers it fresh weekly to bars, restaurants and retailers in the region. OMB uses only the finest ingredients available worldwide and employs traditional, intensive brewing methods to transform them into world class beer that’s full-flavored yet amazingly refreshing. History and Hops Tour

Rich in history and hops, The Olde Mecklenburg Brewery (OMB) is the oldest and largest brewery in Charlotte. During private tours, groups are given a unique insight into the authentic ingredients and time-honored brewing process of the classic German-style beers offered at OMB. Visitors will learn about OMB’s strict adherence to the world famous German “Reinheitsgebot” beer purity law of 1516 that ensures all natural beers with no artificial chemicals, preservatives or additives. During their tour, participants can touch (and taste) the barley malt, smell the Bavarian noble hops and learn how the beer is brewed, fermented and packaged using traditional methods.

NoDa Brewing Company

NoDa Brewing Company opened its doors to the world on October 29, 2011 and is one of Charlotte’s newest home-grown microbreweries for beer lovers in the Carolinas! Experience a Miracle

Shortly after taking off from New York’s La Guardia Airport on January 15, 2009, US Airways Flight 1549 struck a flock of Canada geese and lost power on both engines. Losing altitude fast and with no certainty of reaching a runway, the captain chose to make an emergency landing in the freezing Hudson River.  Everyone on board survived. Many called it a miracle. The skills of the captain and first officer, good decisions, immediate rescue and a dose of luck, certainly, but behind this success story also lie years of improvements in aviation technology and safety.

Mario Andretti Racing Experience offers real Indy Style race cars you drive by yourself!  Get a taste of what it's like to drive an Indy Style race car for a 5 minute timed racing session in the Practice Drive 5.  There are no pace cars to follow.
