This blog is brought to you in partnership with Discovery Place Science.
Step into the exciting world of paleontology – the study of ancient life – as you unearth some of the most significant dinosaur discoveries from over the last two decades. “Ultimate Dinosaurs: Meet A New Breed of Beast,” at Discovery Place Science, explores a new breed of dinosaurs that evolved in the Southern Hemisphere.
“Ultimate Dinosaurs” tells the story of the breakup of supercontinent Pangea into the continents that we know today and the ways that continental drift affected the evolution of dinosaurs more than 250 million years ago.
This exhibit seeks to answer the questions: why are southern dinosaurs bizarre and what makes them unique compared to their North American counterparts? Find out for yourself as augmented reality, history and science provide a unique perspective on these prehistoric marvels.
Get to know the 16 fully articulated dinosaur breeds on display that evolved in isolation in South America, Africa and the island of Madagascar. This includes the Suchomimus, a 33-foot-long spinosaur from the Sahara Desert that would have weighed more than 6,600 pounds. Stand in the shadow of a Giganotosaurus, the largest carnivorous dinosaur and perhaps the largest land predator ever.
Watch as these prehistoric creatures come to life at this new featured exhibit, only in Charlotte for a limited time this summer. Using cutting-edge technology and groundbreaking scientific findings, the animation and renderings for this exhibit bring these exciting and intimidating creatures to life like never before.
“Ultimate Dinosaurs: Meet A New Breed of Beast” runs from June 21 through Sept. 8 and is included with general admission to Discovery Place Science.
