Spanky's Homemade Ice Cream

The ice cream is very good, but unfortunately the customer service has been disappointing every time I've visited. The employees behind the counter often seem unhappy and uninterested in being there, which creates an unwelcoming atmosphere. A simple greeting when customers walk in or a friendly smile during service would go a long way toward improving the experience. Good customer service can make just as much of an impact as good ice cream. With a more welcoming attitude from the staff, this would be a much more enjoyable place to visit.

Such a cute, fun little place. Both the sandwiches and the ice cream were great! I enjoyed the Spanky's special on pumpernickel. My son enjoyed the Chicken Supreme. For dessert, I really enjoyed a double of Espresso and Butter Pecan. My 4 year old granddaughter loved the Black Cherry. "I love the cherries!" Very pleased! We'll be back next time we come back down to the NC Transportation Museum!

The two girls working today, Saturday 5/9 around 3-4 pm were EXTREMELY rude. We come in fairly often and have never had a bad experience, but today was enough to make us not even wanna come back which sucks because we love the place. My son is 4 and was trying to tell me what he wanted and was saying chocolate as we were looking, but we were standing in front of the chocolate peanut butter (to a 4 year old it looks like just chocolate) so I told the girl a kids chocolate cup, and she said chocolate isnt right there, its over here and just looked at my 4 year old. Obviously a 4 year old is not going to be able to read the signs, nor order their own stuff. I said what he wanted, it shouldnt matter where we are standing - didnt realize we need to be standing in front of the ice cream we want? Then, as we paid another girl was running the register & my card wouldnt read so she had to try it again and as I explained that the card sometimes has issues with that she rolled her eyes and got huffy and puffy. After that, both girls went to sit down and play on their phones. Another table got up and left and they didnt even bother to wipe the table off. As we were leaving, my child was trying to help me by opening the door and pushed the wrong door and the girl who was scooping the ice cream yelled at him and told him THE OTHER DOOR as if he was gonna break the door off or something. The attitude, yelling and being rude is ridiculous. The two girls who were there dont need to work there if they cant provide good & friendly customer service.

We always try to support local and today we tried Spanky's. Oh dear... This is the $10 roast beef sandwich. There is ONE slice of roast beef on the entire sandwich. ONE. Adding insult to injury, the roast beef is brown and not rare as roast beef should be. It was also tacky... the kind of tacky highly processed deli meat gets right before it turns sour- yuck. The single slice was not freshly sliced as one would expect at a deli; it was obvious is came bulk prepackaged and who knows how old it is. The $10 meal also includes a rubber dill pickle and a light handful of broken chips. I unfortunately don't think I've ever been more disappointed in a "deli" sandwich. This is barely a sandwich shop and certainly not a deli.

I can honestly say I was completely speechless leaving this establishment after the way we were treated today. I understand if you are uneducated and need help understanding the rules and regulations for service dogs but please just ask.. the way this employee treated us was completely uncalled for. These brave men and woman fought for our country and these dogs are life lines for each and every one of them. To point blank tell us to leave was absolutely ridiculous bc these veterans had every right to eat at this establishment. We left Spankys and went straight to Mean Mug were we treated with respect and kindness. We had a wonderful class and will continue to support Mean Mug and the other local businesses that welcome us with open arms!!! #sheltertoservice #adoptdontshop
