Charlotte Convention Center Receives GBAC STAR Facility Accreditation for Cleaning Protocols
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (September 25, 2020) – The Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority (CRVA) announced today that the Charlotte Convention Center has received the Global Biorisk Advisory Council® (GBAC) STAR™ Facility Accreditation, making it one of the first facilities in North Carolina to earn this distinction.
ISSA introduced the GBAC STAR™ accreditation program earlier this year as the cleaning industry’s only outbreak prevention, response and recovery accreditation. Under the guidance of GBAC, the Charlotte Convention Center has implemented the most stringent protocols for cleaning, disinfection, and infectious disease prevention and demonstrated compliance with and commitment to the program's 20 core elements. Program elements range from standard operating procedures and risk assessment strategies to personal protective equipment (PPE) and emergency preparedness measures.
“The GBAC STAR Facility Accreditation allows facilities like the Charlotte Convention Center, a major economic driver for our city, to demonstrate an ongoing commitment to the health and safety of our employees and our guests," said Tom Murray, Chief Executive Officer of the CRVA. “In conjunction with numerous other precautionary steps we have taken in response to COVID-19, this accreditation affirms that all who walk through our facility doors are met with the highest standard of cleanliness."
The Charlotte Convention Center is among a growing group of convention centers, arenas and public venues from around the world to achieve accreditation, ensuring that employees are trained with best work practices, protocols, procedures and systems for biorisk prevention and containment. Additionally, with the guidance of the CDC, FDA and a contracted infection disease control expert, the CRVA has created and implemented a comprehensive “We Clean with Care” program in its managed venues.
Last week Charlotte's Spectrum Center announced its GBAC STAR Accreditation. The CRVA is also pursuing the accreditation for its other managed venues, the NASCAR Hall of Fame and the Bojangles Entertainment Complex.
