Carowinds Camp Wilderness

We wanted to camp someplace close for our first time in our new motorhome. This was great. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The grounds were really clean and well kept. The bathrooms were spotless. There appear to be a small number of folks who are long-timers (bird feeders and more semi-permanent decorations) but not a lot. It was quiet and lovely and would be great if you have kids and also want to go to the amusement park.

Staff was very friendly upon arrival. We stayed because we were in the middle of moves and it was near my husband's work. It was pouring rain the first night and the campground was a mud puddle. Grounds NOT at all maintained, so deep holes everywhere. No concrete pads, which made it even worse. At the least, they could pour gravel I think most of the good reviews are because it is near Carowinds and people get freebies. Because there is NO way this is close to being a resort. Would not recommend or return.

If your destination is Carowinds and if camping is your thing, then you need to stay at Camp Wilderness. Even if you don't have a camper they have cabins. You can't get anymore convenient and close to the park than staying here. The folks at check-in were super friendly and knowledgeable. Every interaction we had with staff was excellent. If you have a camper, you'll appreciate the large sites and ease of navigating the campground. We were in site 150 which was a nice sized full-hookup pull-thru. If you're going to the park, they have a shuttle that runs pretty much non-stop all day from open to after close and it literally takes 5 minutes or less to get in the park. We just had a great stay and we're headed back soon. Even if you're not going to the park this is a great location if you're in the area and very affordable. Check it out!

Really liked the campground . We had beautiful weather while camping and that means we didn't get to experience the mud others mention. I can definitely see how some rain will lead to a lot of mud. The shuttle to the park was a great bonus. We will definitely come back again. Being able to leave the park to come back here to eat and rest is how all parks should be done.

We had a great experience here! The staff was very friendly, the campground is beautiful, the cabin was very clean and well stocked. It's only minutes from the amusement park with a shuttle provided every half hour. We will definitely stay here again!
