Ay Papi Tacos & Tequila

Ok here we go... I was in Rock Hill SC on some business and the scale of "family restaurant" chains was numbing. I felt like I was in an alternate universe of the same menu at every turn. And then I turned down Main Street downtown and noticed empty streets at lunchtime and a packed restaurant called Ay Papi !! Now I know why the streets were empty, the crowd was devouring the awesome selection of "fusion" tacos. Maybe that's a buzz word for some folks but it's accurate. Their selection is interesting to see on a menu but even more amazing to sample. I've sampled every day for a week, except for Monday when they are usually closed. This place made my trip to Rock Hill a highlight of the year. This is perfect, delicious comfort food served by cool folks in a comfortable environment. Great, eclectic cliental and an unpretentious presentation. I felt at home. I felt welcome. I left full and happy. I've said to a few people this place could rock in certain neighborhoods in Queens or Brooklyn NY but I'm starting to think it's actually the folks here that make this place so special. Stay where you are Ay Papi, you are more than the sum of your tacos. And, you're worth the trip.

The menu is super creative, I love what they are doing with "taco-fying" cuisines from all over. The spicy chicken taco was delicious but be careful because it is super spicy! The bao bun taco was delicious as was my calamari taco. Tasty drinks and a friendly crowd. The only issue I had was a slight odor to the place (smelled like stale pipes or dirty water), but I was the only one of my crowd that noticed it so it obviously wasn't too bad. Def recommend if you have an adventurous palate!

I had such a great experience eating at Ay Papi. I came in to eat with my daughter and right off everyone was so friendly. Our server MacKenzie was incredible! She was so kind to my daughter and even supplied a coloring book and pencils for her to color. She made some awesome recommendations and was just incredibly pleasant overall. The food was amazing as well. I got the 3 taco flight along with 1/2 beans 1/2 rice. The portions were perfect and the flavor was amazing! I will absolutely be back!

I got the el porker tacos and when I say they were the BEST pulled pork tacos I have ever had I dont say that lightly as a Latina Ive had good tacos from all over, but these were absolutely amazing and my drink was the black tie affair which was a drink mixed with cucumber, vodka, Sprite, and raspberry and the fact that they use fresh raspberries just really set this drink off I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants to eat at a very laid-back and relaxed environment with great food and great service!

Our tacos were delicious. Loved the decor / atmosphere. The service was friendly. My only constructive criticism, would be to flush out/change the keg when it's kicked. I was served a Mountain Candy, a go-to IPA of mine; and it tasted absolutely nothing like a mountain candy. The pernicious cans as a backup was fine, but if you know the keg is near-end, and a beer expert provides feedback on a beer, you should do something about it, especially knowing someone else will likely order some after me. Didn't hinder our experience. We'll travel back from Charlotte, because the food was that good, and the staff were friendly. (And the salsa was fantastic!)
