The Pump House
I've been to the Pump House on numerous occasions and I can say after some visits that they're consistent but in a mediocre way. The outdoor and indoor decor is decent and fits the proximity and location to the Catawba River. The atmosphere is decent and the waitstaff is good but could be better when considering the premium prices the Pump House charges. When I've visited, I have either the Filet Mignon which is good but it looks too busy and messy or the Steak Burger which is good but mine was overcooked. When dining here, it seems like they have too many choices and lose some of the identity they try to present. The food could use more seasoning as it can come across as bland. When they say Southern inspired, I don't feel or taste that. When reading other peoples reviews, I keep coming back hoping it gets better but not much improvement. Again, for the price they charge, you'd expect an elegant and intimate dining experience but they fall short in my opinion. Not all is bad with the Pump House as they have nice views and rooftop dining that you should make a reservation for. They do have an extensive wine list and signature drinks. Overall, I say give them a try and your experience will hopefully be better than mine.
The Pump House in Rock Hill, SC serves amazing dishes and provides excellent service by well-trained, pleasant staff who believe in the dishes they describe and visit the table often to refresh drinks and check on needs. We were well attended by Caroline in the dining room. She was extremely helpful in explaining choices and in being careful about my seafood allergy. We arrived long before our reservation. While we waited for all our party to arrive, we enjoyed drinks on the rooftop level where Andrew made us welcome even though we were not eating and knew exactly when our party was being seated in order to direct us down to the main dining room. The care, consideration, delicious menu choices (bravo to the chef), and well organized staff made this a beautiful, although expensive dining experience. It was well worth the cost.
Our group consisted of 7 people. Service was good but the waiter did seem to rush us a bit considering we were there for a birthday lunch so we were not in any hurry at all. Two of us ordered the meatloaf lunch special at the recommendation of our waiter. We were both disappointed. One ordered a salad and the rest ordered the sweet tea marinated chicken sandwich. The sandwich was very good. We had a few drinks and they were fine. The place does have a spectacular view of the river if you select a table outside. We did see deer running down the riverbank while we were there.
One of the best experiences we have had! A pleasant surprise after a long day of driving. Ross and Sean are top notch bartenders with personality, personal attention and knowledge of the many drinks and craft beers. The strawberry jalapeo margarita was a winner! The food was amazing! Shrimp and grits & blackened tuna were superb! Cant say enough but we will definitely be back on our next road trip to South Carolina. Thank you for a great experience!!
We are visiting from Massachusetts and ate at the restaurant last night. The building itself that is visible from the highway is very unique. A remodeled pump house with seating and views on the Catawba River. The food was Delicious very creative with the presentation and flavors. Every step of the way from our arrival until when we left the staff was welcoming and friendly. The service was excellent very attentive to our needs and pleasant the executive chef very talented and enjoyable.
