Ever wonder how things work or what you can find inside?
Find out at our first-ever Tinkerfest, a daylong celebration of design, imagination and creativity for girls and their families from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This free community event will take place in front of the Museum.
This festival will bring together local partners with Discovery Place educators to provide hands-on activities that let girls and their families participate by doing. From taking apart small appliances to putting bones back together, girls will be encouraged to experiment and explore how things work and move.
Guests will be able to tinker with a variety of no-, low- and medium-tech devices throughout the day. Activities will include:
Working with Makey Makey circuits to create an electric piano
Designing paper airplanes and testing them with different challenges
Creating Shrinky Dinks to take home
Using basic hand tools to take apart walkie talkies, telephones and hair dryers.
Master designers and tinkerers can go deeper with workshops that will be offered inside the Museum (included with Museum admission). Design your own vinyl sticker using a computer and a Cricut cutting machine or build your own beanstalk to help Jack escape. Workshops will be available on the hour every hour from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. and are first come, first serve.
