Eat & Drink
Bobby’s Burgers
Neighborhood: SouthPark
Culinary celebrity Bobby Flay has opened a burger restaurant and test kitchen at The Towers at SouthPark. On the menu, you’ll find a lineup of burgers, a chicken sandwich, veggie burger and several fried sides. Try a milkshake if you still have room.
Brooklyn Pickle
Neighborhood: Midtown
Tucked inside Atrium Health’s Levine Center Institute, you’ll find this New York-born sandwich shop. The menu features a taste of NYC with options like Italian, corned beef, hard salami and meatball subs. Find Brooklyn Pickle on select delivery apps if you can’t make it to the counter.
El Malo Tacos
Neighborhood: Plaza Midwood
From the owners of Mal Pan in SouthPark comes El Malo, serving traditional tacos inspired by the taquerias in Tijuana as well as quesadillas, burritos, nachos and loaded fries. Soon, the same team will open a speakeasy-style bar right next door called Hermanita.
Empire Pizza
Area: Pineville
A popular pizza spot with several locations nearby in South Carolina, and one in Mint Hill, now has a second home in North Carolina. Choose from a signature pizza or create your own. If you’re in the mood for something else, try a salad, burger, wrap, pasta dish, or “Parm Hero” with chicken, meatball or Italian sausage.
Frenchy’s Sip and Shop
Neighborhood: South End
Come thirsty because this new bottle shop has over 700 drink options, including beer, wine, cider and saké. Buy your favorites and take them home or stay a while and enjoy them with simple snacks and charcuterie boards.
Greco Fresh Grille
Neighborhood: NoDa
The ninth location for this local fast-casual Greek chain is now open in the new Inkwell Building on East 36th Street. Enjoy an array of classics like Greek salads, gyros and grilled kebobs in the festive blue and white dining room or order online for easy pickup.
Grow Cafe
Area: North Charlotte
Take your little ones on that next coffee run because this café offers an interactive play area for children. Adults can sip and socialize in a comfortable space while watching the kids entertain themselves. Private playdates and parent-child workshops are also available.
Honeysuckle Gelato
Neighborhood: Ballantyne
The developing Bowl at Ballantyne has a new tenant: Charlotte’s second Honeysuckle Gelato location. Treat yourself to something cool, like a waffle cone filled with your favorite flavor or a build-your-own gelato cookie sandwich.
Jekyll & Hyde Taphouse and Grill
Area: Waxhaw
The third location of this local restaurant is open in Waxhaw. Special features include a steampunk display, funky artwork, a library with centuries-old books and a bar made with the original floorboards of the building. Eventually, Jekyll & Hyde will begin distilling their own gin and vodka.
New York Butcher Shoppe
Area: Fort Mill, S.C.
Eat, drink and shop at the newest NY Butcher Shoppe in the Charlotte region. Inside, you’ll find everything you need to create a meal. Or, dine in and have the chef prepare a steak, salmon or fresh catch from the butcher’s counter. The team plans to open a fifth location in Belmont.
Postino WineCafé
Neighborhood: Ballantyne
Craft a meal from shareable dishes, charcuterie boards and various bruschetta builds at this concept, now open at The Bowl at Ballantyne. Postino is especially known for an awesome weekly deal: a bottle of wine and board of bruschetta for just $25 on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Toastique
Neighborhood: South End
Taste a variety of gourmet toasts at this new spot in the Vantage building. Favorites include the spicy crab, smoked salmon and avocado smash, paired with a cold-pressed juice or smoothie. Local owners Chris and Angela Bjorson plan to open other locations in the city in the future.
Things to Do
APB Skatepark
Neighborhood: Wesley Heights
The Collective on Tuckaseegee, a new development with more tenants on the way, is now home to one of Charlotte’s only designated areas to skate or skateboard. Eventually, patrons can also shop at APB Charlotte, a sneaker and apparel store.
