Food & Drink
220C Banh Mi and Coffee
Neighborhood: Matthews
Hours: Monday-Saturday, 9 a.m.-7 p.m.; Closed Sunday.
This new family-owned sandwich and pastry shop is serving up banh mi made with housemade French baguettes, savory buns, cream puffs and plenty of hot or iced Vietnamese coffee. Everything is made and baked fresh in-house, so the team usually arrives well before the sun comes up to start the day.
Arbol
Neighborhood: Uptown
Hours: Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
A new healthy breakfast and lunch spot has opened in Uptown featuring breakfast burritos, açai bowls, coffee, smoothies, paninis and pastries. The cafe has seating, but busy folks will love how easy it is to grab-and-go a good meal.
Bonefish Grill
Neighborhood: Matthews
Hours: Monday-Thursday, 11 a.m.-10 p.m.; Friday-Saturday, 11 a.m.-11 p.m.; Sunday, 11 a.m.-9 p.m.
The existing Bonefish Grill in Matthews may have closed, but a new one has opened right down the street. So you can still get your Bang Bang Shrimp fix or perhaps try one of their newer items, like Tempura Crunch Sashimi Tuna or a Tuna Poke Bowl. Feeding the family? They also offer family bundles available for takeout.
Burial Beer Co
Neighborhood: Plaza Midwood
Hours: Monday-Thursday, 3 p.m.-midnight; Friday-Saturday, noon-midnight; Sunday, noon-9 p.m.
Popular Asheville-based brewery now has a home in Charlotte. Burial Beer Co. features indoor and outdoor seating (including a super cool rooftop deck) plus a bottle shop and, eventually, an onsite food truck serving beer-friendly foods. For non-beer drinkers, wine and cider are also available.
Crumbl Cookies
Neighborhood: Steele Creek
Hours: Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m.-10 p.m.; Friday-Saturday, 8 a.m.-midnight; Closed Sunday.
Charlotte now has another Crumbl Cookies location thanks to local franchise owner Teri Alexander. These freshly baked cookies rotate in flavor weekly (Milk Chocolate Chip is always available) and can be ordered at the shop or via delivery apps. They even make mini versions of their cookies, perfect for your next party or event.
Metro Diner To-Go
Neighborhood: South End
Hours: 7 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
Enjoy Metro Diner favorites like Fried Chicken & Waffle, Cinnamon Roll Pancakes and their Breakfast Burger in the comfort of your home with this new takeout-only concept. Order online for easy pickup or choose delivery through DoorDash, Uber Eats and GrubHub. If you want to dine-in, check out their other area-locations in Huntersville, Pineville and Matthews.
Snooze A.M. Eatery
Neighborhood: SouthPark
Hours: Monday-Friday, 6:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.; Saturday-Sunday, 6:30 a.m.-4 p.m.
Feast on pancake flights, scrambles, and shrimp and grits at Snooze’s newest Charlotte location. Just like their South End and Plaza Midwood locations, this spot serves a fun, elevated breakfast menu complete with boozy drinks and assorted juices. Pro tip: Before you go, head to their website and add your party to the waitlist.
Tous les Jours
Neighborhood: SouthPark
Hours: 8 a.m.-8 p.m. daily
TOUS les JOURS (or “every day” in French) specializes in breads and pastries, like Cloud Cream Bread, Milk Pillow Bread, croissants and danishes. Various sandwiches and salads are available, too, as well as iced and hot coffee and tea drinks. This French-Asian bakery has around 1,650 locations worldwide and only two in North Carolina.
Velvet Taco
Neighborhood: South End
Hours: Sunday-Wednesday, 11 a.m.-11 p.m.; Thursday, 11 a.m.-midnight, Friday-Saturday, 11 a.m.-2 a.m.
Charlotte’s third Velvet Taco location is now open in South End, but this one operates a little differently than the others. On Fridays and Saturdays, you can enjoy funky tacos after an evening on the town, as the restaurant is open until 2 a.m. You can also find this spot at Park Road Shopping Center and inside Optimist Hall.
Vicious Biscuit
Neighborhood: Arboretum
Hours: Monday-Friday, 7 a.m.-3 p.m.; Saturday-Sunday, 8 a.m.-3 p.m.
If you’re looking for BIG biscuits, you’ll find them at South Carolina-born Vicious Biscuit. You won’t go wrong with their namesake, The Vicious (cheddar and jalapeño biscuit, crispy fried chicken breast, signature maple sausage gravy, house cowboy candy, and a maple syrup drizzle) - or maybe try “The Bird and the Belgian” when you aren’t feeling biscuits (fried chicken breast with sweet potato waffle.)
Things to Do
Bazal
Area: Music Factory
Hours: TBD
The city’s newest late night spot is bringing something we haven’t seen around here yet - a gallery and a nightclub in one. The Gallery features rotating local and national art, chill music and craft cocktails (and will be open during the day for visitors.) At the Nightclub, you’ll experience “today’s hits” music and more casual drink options. This place certainly has it all!
Mountain Creek Park
Area: Lake Norman
Next time you visit Lake Norman, check out this new 606-acre park. There’s plenty to enjoy, like 19.52-miles of trail, pickleball courts, a dog park, picnic shelters and an adventure playground. The exact location of the park is 6554 Little Mountain Road, Sherrills Ford, NC.
The Independent Picture House
Neighborhood: NoDa
Hours: 1:30-10 p.m. daily (depending on showtimes)
Indie film fans, rejoice - there’s now a new place to watch them on the big screen in Charlotte. This nonprofit arthouse has three screens, a full concession stand with beer and wine and plenty of screen time for the movies you (mostly) cannot see anywhere else in town. Got your popcorn ready?
